Benny Lester Shelton, 72 years of age, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Sue Shelton. The two were high school sweethearts. He is survived by his two sons Jack Shelton, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and JD Shelton, of Signal Mountain, Tennessee. Jack Shelton and his wife Robin have two daughters, Gracie Shelton, age 18 and Isabelle Shelton, age 14. JD Shelton and his wife Pam have a son, Cale Shelton, age 15, and a daughter, Cayden Shelton, age 11.
Ben Shelton, born in Arkansas, was the only child of Lester and Lois Shelton. At early age, his family relocated to Sulphur, Oklahoma. It was in Sulphur, Oklahoma where he met and began dating Sue Shelton.
After high school, Ben went on to graduate from Central State University in Edmund, Oklahoma. After graduation, Ben obtained a teaching and coaching position in Oklahoma. Ben changed careers around the time of the birth of his first son, Jack Shelton. Ben began working in sales with Warner Lambert. Ben and his young family left Oklahoma and moved to New Jersey for a short period of time. Warner Lambert transferred Ben and his family to Tucker, Georgia in 1971.
Ben was a member of the Tucker First United Methodist Church. He was an avid college football fan who always looked forward to football Saturdays in the fall. He loved to play golf and was doing so weekly up until his death. Ben never met a stranger and thoroughly enjoyed talking to anyone, anywhere.
