Carole Alexis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 3, 2011.

Carole Ann Alexis was born on February 19, 1942, to James and Dorothy Campbell. On July 5, 1946, Carole was blessed with a baby sister, Ida. Carole attended Holy Name of Jesus, grammar school. In 1959, Carole graduated from Bishop Conaty Memorial High School. In high school, Carole loved math and English, and was a member of the journalism club.

In 1958, Octave Alexis,Tave, as his friends called him, while at a party, saw a young beautiful girl from across the room. He was immediately taken in. Tave asked a friend who this gorgeous creature was, the friend replied, that's Carole. Mustering all of his courage and charm, Tave introduced himself to Carole and soon thereafter they began dating.

In the earlier part of 1960, Tave, asked Carole's parent's for permission to marry her. Carole's mother was reluctant because Carole had Lupus, a serious and potentially deliberating disease. Dorothy explained to Tave, the nature of Carole's illness and the uncertain future awaiting her. Tave, undeterred, promised Dorothy he would love and take care of Carole until the day she died. Carole's parents gave their permission and on July 16, 1960, Carole and Tave were married at the Bride's Wedding Chapel.

Carole and Tave, had three sons, Octave, Jr., Reginald and Bryan. Carole, who was dedicated to her husband and three sons, chose to stay at home to take care of her family.

Tave retired in 1990, he and Carole moved from California to Nevada. Having raised her children, and never one to let grass grow under her feet, Carole went to work for the first time. Initially she worked at Wendy's, and then pursued a career at GE Capital and Merck. While at GE Capital, Carole met Tonya, a co-worker, whom she "adopted" as the daughter she never had.

Carole was an avid reader, who loved to knit and crochet. Carole, an animal over always had dogs at her side.

During the last few years of her life, Carole became increasing ill, and was housebound. True to his promise to Carole's parents, Tave was by her side, cooking, cleaning, and caring for the woman he dearly loved. During the final months of her illness, Carole was surrounded by the love her three sons, granddaughters, Ashley and Paige, her sister Ida, niece Erica, nephew Dimitri, her "adopted" daughter Tonya, dear friends, Betty and Rose, Brittany and her Yorkie as well as a host of others who loved her.

On November, 2, 2011, at 10:58 a.m., after months of suffering, Carole was called home. At the time of her death Carole was a patient at Nathan Adelson Hospice Hospital.

Carole and Tave had been married for 51 years, he misses her dearly, but oh what wonderful memories they shared. Carole is also survived by her three sons, Octave, Jr., Reginald and Bryan, her grandchildren, Ashley, Paige, Simone and Evan, her sister Ida, her nephews, Dimitri and Own Thomas, her niece Erica and many friends.

My sister Carole, although now with God, has left me with many treasured memories. I can remember the times in my young adult years when she would let me hangout with her and her friends. It was where I learned what friendship truly was.
It was when I babysat for her that I leaned by her example of how a loving a wife and mother should be. When I had a family of my own she was always ready to lending a helping hand.
Through the last years of her life, she kept how sick she was from me, because she didn't want to worry me. About 6 months ago I learned about her declining health and then it was now my turn to take care of her. During this time I made many trips to see her, to make her laugh, to remember old times and to comfort her.
God let me be with her, holding her hand when she took her last, and very peaceful final breath.
Carole was a wonderful wife, mother, friend, but most importantly a great and caring big sister, whom I will dearly miss.
I love you sis!
