A native of DeRidder, Louisiana, Ciro S. Lampo died Friday, February 3, 2012 in Lafayette, LA at the age of 87.

Visitation will be on Monday, February 6, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Rosary Vigil will be on Monday February 6, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at Hixson Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday February 7 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in DeRidder, under the direction of Hixson Funeral home.

Mr. Lampo graduated from Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, LA in 1946 with a degree in chemistry/pre-med. He was a member of Phi Mu Alpha national honorary musical fraternity and the cheerleading squad. He was a talented musician who played the coronet.

Mr. Lampo retired from Crosby Chemicals, which later became Westvaco, in DeRidder after 47 years where he served as chief research chemist. There he developed numerous products and compounds, several of which were patented by the U.S. Patent Office. He was also an entrepreneur who developed a pine-based cleaning product called Sanico, which he distributed throughout the south.

He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church where he served for many years as an altar boy, usher, and lecturer, and where he was a charter member of perpetual adoration devotion and a member of the Legion of Mary. He also taught CCD classes to junior high school students. Mr. Lampo was a recipient of the St. Joseph's medal for 47 years of service to the church.

Mr. Lampo was also a long-standing member of the local chapter of the Knights of Columbus where he achieved the fourth degree and held the position of past Grand Knight. He was a past chairman of the Boy Scouts of America Scout-O-Rama and served as chairman of the Beauregard Parish chapter of the American Red Cross. He was an officer in the local chapter of the American Cancer Society and a charter member of Beauregard Country Club. He enjoyed working at the concessions booth of the Impromptu Players community theater group. Mr. Lampo was considered by many to be a local historian for Beauregard Parish for his many stories about growing up and living in the area.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Nancy Peraconie Lampo; parents, Salvador "Sam" and Rose Pernici Lampo; paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Ciro Lampo, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pernici, Sr.; numerous aunts and uncles; and step-daughter Leigh Walker Stephens.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis Walker Lampo; son Sam C. Lampo and wife Kerry Fitzgerald; son Thomas C. Lampo and wife MaryAnn; daughter Rosalind Lampo Fisher and husband Lindsey Fisher; step-daughter Dawn Walker Ransom and husband Robert; and grandchildren Lauren Lampo, Sarah Lampo, John Lampo, Jessica Lampo, Nicholas Fisher, Harrison Fisher, Nancy Rebecca Fisher, and Jonathan Fisher; and step grandchildren Phillip Ransom, Ashlynn Ransom, and Devin Stephens.

Thinking of Ciro takes me back to childhood---
My Mom, Vivian, his first cousin, and Uncle Sal and Aunt Rosie and that pretty hair she kept all time, and living across from her, Nancy and the time knew her. Ciro, always laughing and smiling and sort of joking or telling us a tale. Memories of sweet times in "little" DeRidder.

I'm so sorry for everyone's loss, but faith tells me he's in a much better place. My Dad, Creighton, and Ciro used to talk on a daily basis -- now they can talk endlessly !!

Ros,tommy and sammy charles we are so sorry about the loss of your dad. I was thinking of him last week and was going to call him Ciro would call me every so often. I remember him letting me play his poker hand and I would be so excited and would blurt out that we were going to win. Everyone would get out but he never got angry, just explained about being silent. Ciro also helped Barry with his science fair project on how to make paper. Barry got 2nd and he was so happy. Ciro was a great man, kind and compassionate. Everyone will miss him. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. vita kahlden and family

What a wonderful man was Ciro. I learned so much from Ciro just listening to him sharing stories over years of my employment at Westvaco and learning his family history and history of DeRidder and Beauregard Parish. I stand in awe at his accomplishments as a chemist. I will always be "his nurse" as we maintained contact frequently until I moved from DeRidder. I loved Ciro and think he lived an amazing life. Ciro was a true believer in Our Lord. Blessings to the family at this time. Love, Janie Stailey Williams

Sorry for the loss of Your dad. I am so thankful I got to go visit him over Thanksgiving and reminisce about old times together in DeRidder and working at Westvaco. I considered him more like a grandfather than just a friend. It has been my great privilege knowing Ciro all these years and he will be missed.

Ros, thanks so much for giving my brothers and me the gift of seeing him one last time. I truly appreciate you for that.
