Dorothy Dozier Akers Age 87 of Gastonia, died Friday October 22, 2010 at her residence. She was a native of Mecklenberg County, the daughter of the late Henry and Stella Dozier and widow of the late John M. Akers.
Dorothy was a loyal contributor to the Gaston County Library thru the Akers Foundation and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Ms. Akers is survived by her daughters, Joanne Akers of Charlotte; Kathleen Akers of Clover, SC; grandson, John Henry Forster of Charlotte; a sister, Mildred Walser of Matthews; a niece Gloria Bulluck of Lexington; personal caregiver of 35 years Margaret Garvin of Gastonia; healthcare giver Zsa Zsa Anderson of Bessemer City and all the other care givers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Stella Dozier; husband, John M. Akers; two daughters, Caroline Akers and Elizabeth Akers.
Funeral service will be 12:00 PM Friday October 29, 2010 in The Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia with the Dr. John Frye officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home prior to services.
