MARSHALL, Eleanor Margaret (née Valeriote). It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eleanor Marshall, who died, surrounded by her loving family, at Toronto General Hospital on November 12, 2016 following surgery. Elegant and intelligent, Eleanor exuded grace, kindness and patience. She will be dearly missed by her children Catherine (Michael Manning), John (Ming Miao), Susan (Mark Johnson), and Corinne (Jeff Willmore), grandchildren Alana, Jesse, Patrick, Kathleen, Daniel, Andrew, Estella, Jake, Derek, and Claire. Eleanor was predeceased by husband Peter Antony Marshall (2000), daughter Virginia Marshall (Stephen Crosby, 2003) and parents Loyola and Dominic Valeriote.
Born in Guelph on March 27, 1934 Eleanor was proud of her Italian heritage and remained close to her many Valeriote relatives. An exceptional student and lover of the classics, Eleanor graduated from Loretto Academy, later returning as an English and Latin teacher. Eleanor attended St. Michael's College, University of Toronto, making lifelong friends and meeting the love of her life, Tony Marshall. Eleanor's teaching career soon took a back seat as her five children arrived in quick succession. When she returned to work, she chose to spend her days with Tony in his Hamilton law practice.
Tony's untimely death devastated Eleanor, but she bravely soldiered on, becoming an E.S.L. teacher and honing her interests in painting, writing, sewing, bridge and social justice. Eleanor relocated to Toronto in 2014 to be closer to her children, who hoped they had many more years to spend with their wonderful mother.
Eleanor also leaves her brother Eugene Valeriote (Mary) of Victoria. B.C., sisters Elizabeth Simpson (Peter) of New Zealand and Joan Hug-Valeriote (Andreas) of Guelph, as well as sisters-in-law Sister Ann Marshall (C.S.J.), Jacqueline Marshall, Sister Suzanne Marshall (O.L.M.) and Ann (Faulds) Marshall.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday November 16, 1-3 pm and 6-8 pm at Trull Funeral Home, 2704 Yonge Street, Toronto. A funeral mass will be said at Blessed Sacrament Church, 24 Cheritan Avenue, Toronto on Thursday November 17 at 11 am. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady's Missionaries, Sisters of St. Joseph's Hamilton or Development and Peace.
