Phillip G. Cohen, our precious and beloved husband and father, passed on to be with his Savior on Tuesday, the 23rd of October 2012, at his home in Houston, with his wife, Dianne White Cohen, by his side, at the age of 74.
Phillip was born in New York City, New York, but moved to Texas as quickly as he could where he received a BA degree at Texas A&M University, and an MBA at St. Mary’s in San Antonio. He began a successful business in the import/export industry, but twelve years ago, decided he wanted to bring his international skills and knowledge to San Jacinto College in Houston where he was a professor in the International Business department. Last year, because of his contributions to teaching students about the international trade industry, Phil received the Houston International Business Member of the year award. When he wasn’t talking about international business, Phil loved talking about Jesus. He and his wife taught Bible studies in the Texas Prison system for eight years, and Phil was also a part of the Lakewood Church Prayer Partner Ministry. He was an ordained minister with the Charles and Frances Hunter Ministries.
He is survived by his adoring wife, Dianne; grandson, Donnie Lash, of Houston; daughter, Jeanine Gidrey, and granddaughter, Chelsey Lash, both of Phoenix, Arizona; and two step children, Heather White of Austin, Texas and Andrew White of Houston; Murray, his faithful cat, must not be left out.
A memorial service celebrating his life is to be conducted at half-past one o’clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 29th of October, in the chapel at Lakewood Church, 3700 Southwest Freeway, where Pastor Dodie Osteen is to officiate.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Mr. Cohen’s name be directed to the San Jacinto College Scholarship Fund, 4624 Fairmont Parkway, Suite 212, Pasadena, TX, 77504.
