Richard Seitz, age 89, a resident of Hayward, died on Wednesday, February 06, 2013, at the Water's Edge Care Center.
Richard David Seitz was born on February 28, 1923, in Lima, Ohio, to the late David and Lavida (Sakemiller) Seitz. After graduation from Lima Central High School, he married his first wife Lucile Moor on June 12 1942 they enjoyed 48 years together; she preceded him in death August 16, 1990. He served in the US Army Combat Engineers from June 1943 until his honorable discharge as a Tech Sergeant in March of 1946. On October 12, 1991, Richard was united in marriage to Sara Bishop Olsen. He worked at the Lima Locomotive Works, Tool Design, was a Plant Engineer for Gro-Cord Rubber Co. in Lima, Ohio. Richard and his wife Lucile owned Moody's Camp Resort, and were the managers and fixed base operator with a charter service at the Hayward Airport. He enjoyed woodworking, taught ground school at the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse, and worked in the Ski Shop at Telemark. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Hayward, the Saratoma Club, the Elks Club, Junior Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the Hayward Lakes Resort Association, Past President of the Lions Club, and many years of volunteering at the Hayward Hospital.
Richard is survived by his wife Sara of Hayward three children Sharon (Gary) Birkenmeier of Eau Claire, WI, Kay (Howard) Sieh of Hayward, WI, Douglas (Mary) Seitz of Eau Claire, WI, four step-children: John (Sandra) Olsen of Lakeland Georgia, Mary Lou (Ray) Harris of Superior, WI, Jim Olsen of Phoenix, Arizona, Nancy (William) Gilliard of Lakeland, Georgia, sixteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his infant son David Seitz in1951 and his sister Donna Albert.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the First Congregational Church of Hayward, WI. Pastor David Benson will officiate. A gathering of friends and family will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be held in the Lima Memorial Park Cemetery in Lima, Ohio at a later date.
