Vincent Mortillaro Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 25, 2013.

Vincent J. Mortillaro, born December 31, 1940 entered into eternal rest on August 22, 2013, at his recent home in Metairie, LA. Vincent was a long time resident of Harvey, LA. Vincent served his country honorably as a Veteran of The United States Marine Corps. He retired from Bell South Services in 1998. Survived by his wife of 48 years, Roselyn (Rose) Hingle Mortillaro, he was the loving father of Anthony Vincent Mortillaro and Angela Rose Mortillaro. Near the end of his life, Vincent was surrounded by so many family and friends as he went through the pain of cancer and other physical sufferings. God saw he was getting tired so he closed his eyes, took his hand and whispered "Vincent, come with Me".
With tearful hearts we watched him fade away. His generous heart of gold stopped beating, and his tired body came to a peaceful rest. Vincent joins his sister Carmella (Ann) Mortillaro in eternal rest along with his parents the late Joseph Mortillaro of Independence, LA
and Angeline Rizzo Mortillaro of Kentwood, LA. A Remembrance of Vincent's life will be held at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 7:00 pm with visitation from 5:00 pm until 10:00 pm. Inurnment will be private. The family would like to express a special thanks to the employees of Hospice Compassus for their wonderful care. In Lieu of flowers donations preferred in Vincent's name to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be expressed online at www.gardenofmemoriesfuneralhome.com.

Rose, Anthony, Angela,
I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Vincent's passing. The only light is that he is out of pain and with our Lord and looking down on you all. He was truly blessed to have you all with him through out everything, you all never seemed to give up but just kept giving. That is a great blessing and shows how deeply he was loved. Saying a special prayer to help you all during this sad time.

In the summer of 1959 at age 14 I wanted to join a Babe Ruth baseball team in Arabi and was told by the SBARD group that they had no place for me and maybe I should try out for the St. Claude Heights team. I went there and asked the coach for a chance and he gave me a chance. Our team won the parish championship that year and I made the All Star team along with other guys I met that summer. David Neal, LJ Boyle, Mouse McLaughlin and many others were on that team and the coach was Vincent Mortillaro. I've thought of him often since that summer but lost touch and am sorry for that. I just found out today that Vincent passed. He had a huge positive impact on my life. He was a terrific coach and a great friend. None of us who were touched by him will ever forget him. He lives on in our memories.
