William Angelos Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 18, 2010.

Dr. William J. Angelos was born in Portland, Oregon on May 3, 1920. He passed away in Portland, Oregon on December 17, 2010 at the age of 90 years.

Dr. Angelos was a Portland native; born, raised and educated in Portland. He graduated Pre-Med for the University of Portland in 1942. Like many of his generation, his education was interrupted with the outbreak of World War II. He served in the United States Army from 1942 until 1944. Upon his return, he resumed and completed his studies at the University of Oregon earing his DMD degree in 1946.

Just as his practice was getting established, the conflict in Korea broke out. Demonstrating once again a willingness to serve, he returned to the United States Army for two more years of active duty. In 1954, he came home to successfully work his Portland area practice for another 43 years, before retiring in 1997.

Throughout that period, he did not break character with patterns he had earlier established. He served a variety of causes and organizations with his time, energy and resources. Camp Angelos became a key focus of Dr. Angelos' attention and has benefited greatly from his generosity.

Dr. Angelos is survived by his Wife; Geraldine, Daughters; Emily Garbarino, Marcia Angelos, Gaylene Angelos and Joyce Johnson, 4 Grandchildren; Cassy Johnson, Erica Johnson, Angelos Harris, Clayton O'Donnell and Sister; Marge Challis.

A Funeral Service for Dr. Angelos will be held Tuesday, December 21, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Portland, Oregon. Interment will take place at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
