Helen Delmar Obituary

Helen Polansky Delmar passed January 24, 2012 in Kalamazoo, MI at the age of 92. She was born in Smithville, TX February 27, 1919 to Minnie (nee Korenek) and Henry F. Polansky.

Helen graduated from Smithville High School, attended the Kansas City Conservatory, and then studied voice in Hollywood, California, where she met and married Armand Delmar. She returned to Smithville in 1949. She worked for many years at the Smithville Light and Water Department. She later worked for National Geographic in Washington, DC, and then in various clerical positions at the Texas State Capital.

Helen had a lifelong interest in politics. She enjoyed working even after retirement at local elections, eventually serving as an election judge. Always a lover of animals, she owned several dogs and also fed various stray cats that adopted her.

Helen was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Smithville. She sang in the choir for many years and served as an elder for one term.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edward Polansky.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Deanna Genelle Evans, a sister, Genelle Churchill, three grandchildren, Elizabeth Katz and her husband Steven of Greenwich, CT; Henry Evans and his wife Candace of Sioux Falls, SD; Margaret Evans of Kalamazoo, MI. and also six great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Susan and David Katz, Luke and Maria Evans, and Katherine Pavek.

Visitation will be from 4pm to 7pm Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Marrs-Jones Funeral Home in Smithville, Texas. The Funeral Service will be at 2pm Monday, January 30, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church of Smithville, with burial following at Oak Hill Cemetery in Smithville, Texas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Smithville, M.D. Anderson Science Park, or the Daisy Fund at the College of Veterinary Medicine of Texas A&M in College Station.
