Herbert Salazar Vasquez, 67, of Oxnard entered the arms of our Lord Wednesday, December 16, 2009, after a brave and lengthy battle to ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).
Herbert was born January 24, 1942, in Saticoy, California. Herbert was the tenth of fourteen children born to Epitacio and Emma Vasquez. He attended elementary school in Saticoy and was a graduate of Ventura High School in 1960. Herbert cherished being from a large family and was known to his family and close friends as "Beto" or "Herbie".
After high school Herbert became an accomplished union painter known throughout the county for Local 955. Herbert loved his profession, and took great pride in his work, eventually passing on his knowledge to his beloved sons.
Herbert was a devoted family man. He is survived by his four children: Debbie Ronnie, Gabriel, Randy and former wife Molly of 41 years. Herbert was most proud of his fourteen grandchildren and his numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by four sisters and three brothers. Family was the center of his life.
One of Herbert's favorite past time was traveling with family. He was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Dodgers, Rams, Lakers, and UCLA Bruins. He loved attending games and watching them on TV. Herbert was happiest when he was surrounded by his family especially at parties and BBQ's.
Herbert bravely fought ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) and refused to let it limit his quality of life. Although he struggled he never lost his will to live a full life retaining his great wit and sense of humor. Herbert always had a loving precious smile on his face and kind words for his family and friends. Even though he has left us, his brave battle was an inspiration to us all.
