Joan Darlie Hewitt (formerly Lang, nee Moxon)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the quiet passing of our mother. She died peacefully in her home on the evening of Sunday, November 11th, 2012 surrounded by her family. She was born October 5th, 1925 in Toronto, the youngest child and only daughter of the late Marjorie Hayes and Norman Moxon. She was born and lived her entire life in the North Toronto area, where her grandparent's originally farmed and lived. She attended John Ross Robertson Public School and Lawrence Park Collegiate. She is predeceased by her brothers, Jack and James. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Peggy and Marion Moxon. She is predeceased by husbands Gordon S. Lang and Foster Hewitt.
She was a loving and devoted mother and mother in law to Stuart and Kim Lang, Sherry and Francois Laveau, Donald and Karen Lang and Barbara and Ian Newlands. Beloved and affectionate "Grano" to her grandchildren Julien, Nicholas, Daniel, Erin, Robyn, Timothy, Trevor, Wesley, Spencer, Harrison and Jordon.
She will be forever remembered for her beautiful smile and blue eyes, her quick sense of humor, and her gracious generosity. She always loved to have her children and their friends around, and created an open and welcoming home for any and all. She had a great ability to laugh at herself, a wonderful joie de vivre, and a comfortable and disarming personality that quickly put people at ease.
She introduced her children to memorable winter vacations, summer cottaging in Muskoka and as adults were later blessed with the pleasure of her company along with her grandchildren on numerous family vacations.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Trull "North Toronto" Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 2704 Yonge Street, (5 blocks south of Lawrence Ave.) on November 19th at 11:00 am. A private family interment will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Salvation Army or charity of your choice. The family is thankful to Mount Sinai Hospital Home Palliative Care and to all who supported and cared so deeply for our mother, particularly Millette Solis and Vivian Delfin who were constant companions since 2008. Stu, Sherry, Barb, and Don, and families,
So sorry to hear about Aunt Joan. She was such a wonderful aunt to have--so full of life, fun, good humor, and always so welcoming. It was such a privilege to know her--and always a treat to see her--however infrequently we met.
I send you all best wishes, I know this is a hard time.

May God bless Joan on her passing away from Pauline Brian McDonoughs family. Pauli was a good friend of Joans since LPCI high school, best looking blonds that found boyfriends with cars. Pauli passed away May 1st from a long battle of Alzeimers disease.

I had the good luck to be one of those "friends of her children" who was welcomed into the Lang home by Stu's gracious and lovely Mum. She never spoke a (truly) cross word and there were no repercussions about the divots in the back lawn. To see her smiling face again brings back a flood of wonderful memories, including the thrill of riding in the back seat of her Impala convertible in the summer.
To Stu, Don, Sherry, Barb and your families, cherish the memories and may they be with you forever.
