Margaret Jacobsen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 16, 2010.

MISSOULA - Margaret Jane "Jennie" (Button) Jacobsen, 97, of Missoula, a former Great Falls resident and retired assistant postmaster, died of natural causes Sunday, February 14, 2010, in Missoula.
Graveside services and burial are 11 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2010, at Highland Cemetery in Great Falls. Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Survivors include her daughters, Helen Lee of Missoula and Barbara Troisi of Kingsburg, Calif.; son, Robert (Patricia) Jacobsen of Carter; sister, Gwen Follick of Strongfield, Saskatchewan, Canada; stepdaughter, Margaret (Stanley) Baldwin of Bothell, Wash.; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Rose Marshall; stepson, Everett; and sons-in-law Sanford Lee and Guy Troisi.
Jennie was born July 5, 1912, in Grenfell, Saskatchewan, to Fred and Gertrude Button. She accompanied her parents and older sister to England in 1916; they returned to farm in Grenfell in 1919. She graduated from grade and high school in Grenfell and attended business school in Regina. Because of the Depression, she moved to Great Falls to increase her employment opportunities. She served as a nanny for a minister's family until they transferred out of state. She then took a job housekeeping and bookkeeping at a Carter Implement dealership run by Chris Jacobsen. In 1935, they were married; to that union were born three children, Helen, Barbara and Robert.
Jennie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and gardening. She was an active member of the Carter Community United Methodist Church, regularly teaching Sunday school and starting the furnace on cold Sunday mornings. In 1962, she began working as an assistant postmaster at the U.S. Post Office in Carter. Jennie continued in that position until retirement in 1977. She then moved to Great Falls, where she became active in the Christ United Methodist Church. In 1992, she moved to Missoula to live with her daughter, Helen.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Country Home Estates and Hospice of Missoula for the compassionate and loving care given to Jennie.
Memorial donations may be made in Jennie's name to Hospice of Missoula, 800 Kensington Ave., Missoula, MT 59801.

We are so sorry to read about Jennie. She always held a special spot in my heart. She was so kind to us when we first moved to Carter. I remember well when she would trudge over to light the furnace at the church on Sundays! Our sympathy for a special lady.
