Maybell Smith Abee, 94, of Morganton, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, April 3, 2011, while at her residence. Born April 20, 1916, in Rutherford County, NC, she was a daughter of the late James Wesley Smith and Lula Bumgarner Smith. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Abee was also preceded in death by a son, Carl Thomas Abee, a grandson, Christopher James Abee, three brothers and one sister. Mrs. Abee was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church, Morganton.

She will lovingly be remembered by three sons, Glenn Smith, and special friend, Jeanette Anderson, Sid Watts, and wife, Betty, Ben Abee and wife, Gay Ree, all of Morganton;
Five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews will also loving remember her.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Abee will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 6, 2011, in the Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton, with the Reverends John Mason and Sam Abee officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM, in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery, Golden Valley, NC. The family will receive friends 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton.

It has been years since I seen Mrs Abee but her stories about her and her family was a treat. Enjoyed making her something to eat when Glenn or Missy came by the cafe.( and me knowing she was a heck of a better cook than than i could ever be) My heart goes out to the family. She was and still is a great woman. Love ya Smith family! sherry rhyne
