Michael Albaugh, 60, lost his courageous battle with Leukemia Wednesday, December 30, 2009. Visitation will be from 2 - 5 p.m. Sunday at Ankeny Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Monday at Ankeny First United Methodist Church. Burial will be at 1:00 pm at Ankeny Memorial Gardens.
Mike was born on November 9, 1949 to Norman and Deva Albaugh. He graduated from Ankeny High School and later from Iowa State University. Mike lived and farmed the fourth generation Albaugh farm in NE Ankeny.
As a teenager he enjoyed 4-H and FFA and always looked forward to the Polk County Fair. He also enjoyed participating in tractor pulls and family vacations to Lake Washburn.
Mike graduated from Ankeny High School in 1967 and from Iowa State University in 1971. He used his architectural engineering degree for several years, but returned to his true love of farming and farmed for many years with his father and uncle Everett. Through the years he has been active with the elevator board, the FSA board, and selling seed.
He was a talented artist and you could see his artistic abilities in his paintings, drawings, photography, woodworking, and leatherwork.
He enjoyed playing games. He loved spending time with his family. His children and grandchildren were very important to him.
Family includes his wife Denise Albaugh, children, Ryan (Kate) Albaugh and their children Grace and Sophia of St. Augustine Beach, FL; Emily Albaugh and Jonathon Albaugh of Ankeny; sister Connie (Mike) Veasman of Colfax, IA; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents Norman and Deva Albaugh, grandparents, Charles and Fern Albaugh and Otis and Grace Hildreth.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ankeny First United Methodist Church or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
