Miguel Diaz of El Rio passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 21, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. He entered the gates of Heaven on his 92nd birthday.
He was born Nov. 21, 1917 in Ameca, Jalisco, Mexico in the small town of Cabezn. He was the second of five children born to Antonio Diaz and Maria Uribe. Miguel was a Ventura County resident for over 60 years.
Miguel worked as a seasonal farm laborer from Brawley to Sacramento when he came to the United States. He settled in Ventura County where he met his wife, Connie (Chona) Lemos. Miguel worked for the sugar beet processing plant in Oxnard and Robert Grather in Somis before being employed for 20 years by the Floyd Corporation at a peaceful ranch in Montalvo, where he was able to live and raise his family.
He was a hardworking man with a strong work ethic who instilled those same qualities in his children. He had an amazing talent for gardening. At almost 92 years old, he was still in his garden growing beautiful roses and the most incredibly delicious tomatoes which he shared with family and friends. His unconditional love of family was an inspiration and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren feel blessed to have been a part of his beautiful life.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Connie (Chona), father Antonio, mother Maria, sisters Soledad, Jesus and Florencia, daughter Genevieve (Cha-Cha), granddaughter Gina and grandson Joseph Jr.
Miguel is survived by his son Jorge Diaz (Carmen) of El Rio, Hilaria Diaz of Santa Rosa, Jennie Tinoco of El Rio, Joseph Diaz of Washington, Veronica Diaz of El Rio, Mondo Diaz of Oxnard, Florence Cerda (Junior) of Oxnard, Rita Diaz of Ventura and Delphina Diaz (Rogelio) of Camarillo, 25 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Ventura County Family Care Clinic with special thanks to Dr. Dunlap, Dr. Helmer and Dr. Clark for their wonderful care of our father over the years. We would also like to thank the ICU nurses at VCMC for their compassion and support.
