Rev. Robert "Bob" Henley Ammons, 81, of Savannah, died Wednesday, Oct 17, 2012 at Hospice Savannah, Inc.
He was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and was retired after 38 years of service, as a minister in the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Prior to coming to Savannah, he worked in Departmental Work for the Seventh Day Adventist Church in North Carolina, South Carolina and Illinois, where he taught Young Ministers, worked in Vacation Bible Schools, Lead Music Programs, and he also sang in the Local Church "Trio". He would also play the ukulele for Children's Camps. He also worked in the Welfare Program of the church, and went to Biloxi, Mississippi, to help with the Hurricane Relief Program.
He was a longtime member of the Lions Club of Savannah, where he loved to work on the Christmas Tree Lot selling Christmas Trees, and he always participated in the "Ring the Bells" Christmas Program at the Mall, and collected Eye Glasses to be given to the needy families.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Motley Ammons, of Savannah, Ga; a son, Robert Henley Ammons, Jr., (Dawnna) of Richmond, Virginia; daughter, Anita Lynne Ammons, of Savannah, Ga; 2 grandchildren, Tara Chavon Ammons Barnes of Chattanooga, TN and Christina Beth Ammons Green of Richmond, VA, and a great grandson, Gavin Barnes of Chattanooga, Tn.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Fairhaven Funeral Home – Hubert C. Baker chapel.
Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Friday in the Hubert C. Baker Chapel, with Rev. John Swasford, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Pastor Ammons and his wife were among the members I met the first time I visited the SDA church on Tibet. I will never forget his warm welcome and his wife's friendliness towards my children when they were young. May he rest in peace utill the resurection day. My prayers to Mrs. Ammons and family.

The Lions Club of Savannah mourns the passing of Lion Bob and commends his spirit to the Chapter Eternal where, no doubt, he is already at work making heaven a better place.
