Arthur Harold Schultz, 80, of Cable, died April 30, 2013, at the Wendigo Pines Assisted Living and Memory Care Center in Grand Rapids, Minn. Arthur was born Sept. 29, 1932, in Beloit, the son of Harold and Ruth (Mills) Schultz.
In 1938 the family moved to Cable, where art completed his education and graduated from the Cable Union Free High School in 1950. Following his graduation Art had a variety of employments prior to his enlistment in the U.S Army as a surveyor-operations sergeant. And qualification as a parachutist. He was able-bodied seaman on the Great Lakes following his honorable discharge from the Army.
On June 8, 1963, Art married JoAnn Grahak in Ashland. They were divorced April 25, 2011.
In 1962, Arthur started his career with the USDA Forest Service. He worked on various federal forests and job corps centers from Wisconsin to West Virginia to Illinois to Wisconsin and finally Alaska. In 1992 after 20 years of military service, the last 10 years as a member of the Alaska National Guard, Art and JoAnn returned home to Wisconsin and resided on Lake Namakagon.
Art enjoyed his fishing, hunting and shooting. He had been a member of the Cable and Area Lions, the Cable Rod and Gun Club and St. Ann's Catholic Church. He was a supervisor for 13 years on the Namakagon Town Board.
Art is survived by his ex-wife, JoAnn; his sons, Ervan of Tucson, Ariz., and Charles (Kristen) Schultz of Juneau, Alaska; his daughter, Virginia Schultz of Phoenix; a sister, Delores (Stephen) Staurseth of Superior; two granddaughters, Peyten and Beth Schultz of Juneau, Alaska; and nephews, a grandnephew and grandnieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ruth Schultz.
A memorial service will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Cable on May 25 at 11 a.m., with Sister Virginia Schwartz officiating.
Following the service, American Legion Post No. 487 will provide Military Rites at the Cable Community Center, followed by lunch and visitation at the Center.
Interment will be later at the Cable Cemetery with the family attending.
