George Meylor

George Meylor, 87, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2012. George was born in Marcus, Iowa, on September 2, 1925. His family owned one of the largest farms in northwest Iowa. In 1944 he joined the navy where he was stationed on the U.S.S. Chemung during World War II. He moved to Long Beach in 1948 where he married Virginia Saner in 1953 at St. Anthony's Church. They were active members of Our Lady of Refuge Church for many years and raised five children. George was a successful and well respected insurance agent in Long Beach, operating Meylor Insurance for 42 years. After Virginia's death in 1993, George moved to Leisure World in Seal Beach where he met, and eventually married, Sunny Schulein in 1995. George is survived by Sunny; his children, Joe Meylor (Angela), Jan Szabatura (Steve), Judy Scully (Steve), Tom Meylor, Mary Martinez (Tom); and 8 wonderful grandchildren who love their "Bapa" dearly. Mass will be held Friday, December 14, at 6:00 p.m. at St. Cornelius Church in Long Beach. Family graveside service will be Saturday morning at All Souls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages a donation to Meals On Wheels.

Anne Gressman-Haff

I'm sorry to hear of the passing of George. He was a dear friend to my parents, Ernie and Mary Gressman and lived near them in Leisure World. We've known the family since we all attended St. Cornelius. He was a wonderful man. My prayers are with the family.

We will always remember our yearly trips to Vegas in January which, sadly, ended many years ago. George was a good friend with a wonderful sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. God bless his wonderful family of which he was so proud.

I remember meeting George on his summer visits to Marcus -- he always seemed to have a great time when he was back. He is the same age as my father, Gerald Meylor, who still lives in Marcus. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
