Gilmore Kerry Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 14, 2014.

Master Sergeant (Retired) Gilmore Kerry, Sr., 81, of Leesville, LA passed away peacefully on March 12, 2014. He was born in Derry, LA. He is the son of Arzene and Louvenia Kerry, and the loyal and loving husband of Annie Mae Troquille Kerry for 60 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Stephana Ann Ryan (Tim) of Leesville, LA, Frieda Witt (Paul) of Seattle, WA, Vanessa Russell (Steven) of Atlanta, GA, Letitia Kerry of Shreveport, LA, and three sons, Gerald Kerry (Brigit) of Abita Springs, LA, Nathan Kerry (Jill) of Atlanta, GA, and Gilmore Kerry, Jr. (Kathy) of Fairview, TX, and six grandchildren, Jessica Ryan and Christopher Ryan of Leesville, LA, Meghan Kerry of Abita Springs, LA, Ethan Kerry and Jacob Kerry of Fairview, TX, and Dillon Kerry of Atlanta, GA.

He is also survived by three sisters, Betty Nettles (Billy) of Baker, LA, Venia House of Zachary, LA, and Effie Everett of Denham Springs, LA, and one brother, John Kerry (Sharon) of Kansas City, MO. He is preceded in death by siblings Maggie Daniels, Pete Kerry, and Willie Mae Edwards.

Master Sergeant (Retired) Kerry is a decorated Korean and Vietnam veteran. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1951 until his retirement in 1972. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, Joint Service Commendation, Army Commendation, Purple Heart, and a variety of military service related medals. Gilmore Kerry was also retired from Civil Services at Ft. Polk, LA and was part of the management team at the Rapides Parish Coliseum in Alexandria in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Gilmore will be lovingly remembered by family and friends as a loving father, proud patriot and US Army Veteran, a tireless and relentless life force, and someone never afraid to provide his opinion or "buck the system". He was a "country boy" from Bayou Cypre who travelled the world and never forgot his humble upbringing. He left us a legacy of stories and memories from his extraordinary life.

A wake will be held at Hixson Funeral Home from 6-10 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014. Funeral services will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Leesville, LA on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Emmanuel Cemetery in Chopin, LA.
