James A. Braund, 90, of DuBois, passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the DuBois Nursing Home.

Born on October 7, 1919 in New Rockford, ND, he was the son of the late Arthur Marwood and Mabel Catherine (Spafford) Braund.

Mr. Braund retired from B & O Railroad. He was an accomplished carpenter who had done work at Mohney-Yargar Funeral Chapel for the original owners, the Moore's.

He attended Bethany Evangelical Covenant Church. He was a member of the VFW Post #813, a past member of the Over 50 Club, DuBois Grange, Lutherburg Saddle and Harness Club, and Brockway Saddle Club. He enjoyed singing country music and entertaining at the DuBois Nursing Home and at special events. An accomplished horseman, he judged pony pulling and loved watching the horse pulling contests. He was involved with the Sykesville Fair and loved farming and gardening.

Mr. Braund was veteran having served in the United States 3rd Army, European Theatre.

He is survived by three daughters: Norma Jean Connor, Bonnie Lou Smith and her husband, Thomas, and Debbie Rae Braund all of DuBois; a son, James S. Braund, and his wife, Susan O'Bryon Braund of St. Augustine, FL, eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Margery Bogle and a brother, Lyman Braund.

Mr. Braund is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Virginia D. Braund whom he married in July 1940 and who passed away on October 3, 2002, a daughter, Sandra Lee Miller, a granddaughter, Catherine Rae Connor, a granddaughter-in-law, Rhonda Sue Connor, and a sister, Dorothy Grazulis.

Funeral services will be held at the Mohney-Yargar Funeral Chapel, Inc. on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Donald R. Ostrom officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the DuBois Area Honor Guard. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
