James William Lemons, 87, passed away on June 26, 2013. He was born May 26, 1926 in Andrews, NC to the late William and Josephine (Painter) Lemons. James retired from Akers Motor Line after 26 years of service. He loved being a Papaw to his four grandchildren, enjoyed fishing and was devoted to his faithful companion Cooper.
James is survived by his wife of 44 years, Helen Lemons of Lowell, NC; two daughters, Gloria Handsel and husband, Russell of Stanley, Teri Moss of Lowell; sister, Aletha Adams of GA; four grandchildren, Branon Handsel, Kasie Handsel, Caleb Moss, Hannah Moss Brewer and husband, Joey; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Pank and Tooter and two sisters, Carsie and Ethel.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 28, 2013 at Gaston Memorial Park. Pastor Nick Mintz will preside.
The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 at Carothers Funeral Home, 312 West 2nd Ave., Gastonia prior to the service on Friday.
