Julia Bain Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 3, 2012.

Julia Irene Yokie Bain passed away on December 2, 2012. Irene was born in Fairport Ohio on April 23, 1927 to John Elmer and Aina Maria (Poikkijoki) Yokie. She grew up in Fairport, Ohio. Irene married Robert (Bob) Bain on July 13, 1948 in Florence, Kentucky

In 1956 the family moved to Pasadena, TX. Her "three boys" Bob Jr, Jim and Scott were her pride and joy. Irene also worked outside the home beginning in Ohio at Lincoln Electric. While in Pasadena she worked at NASA as a secretary to Buzz Aldrin amongst other NASA staff. Irene was a Certified Professional Secretary (CPS) and a member of the CPS Society of Texas.

In 1976 Irene and Bob started spending the weekends in Smithville, TX at their "B-Hive Ranch".
They moved from Pasadena to the ranch in 1978 and purchased the Smithville Lumber Company in 1978 and operated it as Bain Lumber Company till 1983.

During retirement Irene pursued a life-long love of animals by raising, training and selling German Shepherds, Rottweilers, and Himalayan-Persian cats. She was also involved with her husband and son, Scott, raising and showing Paint horses.

Other interests included: tracing her family's genealogy, visiting the casinos to play the slots, working crossword puzzles and cooking her exceptional spaghetti sauce.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband Bob and son Bob, Jr., brothers John and Walt. Irene is survived by her brother Eddie Yokie of Florida, her sons Jim and wife Marie, Scott and wife Cindi, grandchildren James, Stephanie, Adam and Cody, great grandchildren Piper, Jeffrey and Phoenix, along with nieces and nephews. All brought great joy and happiness to her. The family wishes to thank Linnie and Lee Hernden and the staff at Lost Pines Personal Care Home for their loving care that was given to Irene the past year.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00pm Friday, December 7, 2012 at Marrs-Jones Funeral Home in Smithville, Texas. Funeral Services will be at 11:00am on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Marrs-Jones Funeral Home with burial following at Oak Hill Cemetery in Smithville, Texas.

Your Mom and Dad always welcomed me into the family. Some of my fondest memories are from when we were in high school and they attended swim meets. I especially enjoyed sitting and talking with your Mom while you guys played golf in honor of your brother Bob. Will be keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this holiday season.

Mother (Mary Jo Shoemake Gazzaway) and Irene were the best of friends since I was born. I grew feeling Irene was my second mother, and how lucky I was to have two such great ladies to take care of me. Though I haven't spoken to her in years she was always in my thoughts and prayers. She is now being embraced by her husband, Bob, and her son, Bobby. She is in good hands. I miss you already.

Jimmy and Mary Jo Gazzaway

Mary Jo (Shoemake) Gazzaway has spoken many, many times about her "Oldest Best Friend, Irene Bain" and although we saw Irene last in November 2008 Mary Jo and I have not been able to come see her because of our health but we thought and talked of her often. We already miss her, just knowing we can't call and talk to her, but we look forward to seeing her again on "the other side of the River Jordan" With love from Mary Jo and Jimmy/
