Madelyn Braden Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 21, 2012.

Madelyn Irene Braden, 62 years young, of Coronado, CA, passed away unexpectedly due to natural causes on January 17, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in San Diego, CA.
She was born Tuesday, April 26, 1949, in San Diego, CA to Bill and Maudie Rodgers who preceded her in death. She was baptised Catholic at St. Rita's Church. Her personality was pleasing and she had an attractive quality from her youth that drew lifelong friends to her. She extended grace to all and was forgiving toward those who would be unfriendly to her, having no malice in her heart.
Maddy had a love of popular music from the start and would spend her allowance on a new 45rpm record each week. She is remembered for sharing her music as a disc jockey with all the neighbor kids at parties in her backyard. This is when she discovered how lucky she was entering and winning contests on the radio stations, a pastime she continued throughout her life.

Maddy attended local schools: Valencia Park Elementary, St. Rita's, O'Farrell Junior High, Samuel Morse High and Kelsey Jenny College. After graduating from Kelsey Jenny, Maddy worked at the San Diego Library, and the County Medical Services of San Diego and some temporary office work in Oceanside.

She married Navy Corpman Joseph Braden in 1970. They raised two sons and a daughter. Military life took her family from San Diego to Oceanside,CA, Waipahu,HI, Aurora,CO, Lemoore,CA, Oakland,CA and back to San Diego.

Maddy rejoined the workforce and retired September 30, 2004 after 25 years of civil service for the Federal Government. Her colleagues said they enjoyed working with her saying Maddy was very bright, diligent about her work, gave 100% all the time and stayed focused on her job. She got along with everyone, was fun, upbeat and always friendly.

Maddy and her daughter moved to Coronado,CA in 1992. Her sons eventually joined her in Coronado. She loved riding the Coronado ferry to and fro. She enjoyed going to good movies with family, friends and even by herself sometimes. She was good at bowling and had lots of fun at the lanes. She was known to show those one armed bandits a thing or two at the casinos.

Maddy believed in staying in close touch and visiting her family and friends; arranging get togethers and out of town trips. She loved and was loved by all. No one will forget her striking blue eyes, infectious laugh and enthusiastic sense of humor.

Maddy leaves behind her sons: Paul Martin Braden, Phillip Michael Braden, daughter Patricia Marcia Jones and son-in-law: Michael-James de Vasconcellos Jones, granddaughters: Shaianne Marcia Braden, Rebekah Rae Braden, grandsons: Lucas Perry Jones, Logan Michael-James Jones, step-granddaughters: Rachel Ann Ibarra, Jessica Marie Ibarra and her daughter Lilyanna, sister: Marcia Jean Horn and brother-in-law: Ron Horn, Nephews:Trent Horn, Cory Horn, Niece: Stephanie Horn, former husband: Joe Braden and family members who remained in her heart.

The funeral services will be held at 12pm on Friday, January 27, 2012 at Greenwood Memorial Park & Mortuary, in the Salli Lynn Chapel, 4300 Imperial Ave, San Diego, CA 92113.

Always a lead, you were. Short, our employ together, but long, my respect and memories of you. Straightforward, hard working, non-pretentious, always vibrant; even on down days. You were a natural at it. We were fortunate you served with and for us.

You enriched our lives. I'm grateful for what you shared with us.

God has you now in eternal bliss, but we will still cherish your presence in our hearts and minds until we join you spiritually again, my lead. Thank you for our times at work together.

You remain our blessing. My deepest appreciation to you and your family.

Madelyn was a very sweet lady. She was a coworker of my husband and I when we all worked at NARDAC San Diego, years ago. May God comfort you all during this time of grief of the loss of your loved one.

RIP Maddy, you will be missed. Even tho I had never met Maddy in person, we have been cyber pals for years. I first met her on My Space then we switched to Facebook. She always remember birthdays, holidays etc. She always cheered me up or had words of wisdom when I was down or having problems. I now regret not taking time to actually meet. Will miss you my friend.

I was shocked to see Madelyn's name in the obituaries. I also worked with her at NASNI and she was always upbeat and very funny. What a gal. I am still shook about this awful news because we have lost a great person way too soon. Madelyn, I'll miss you and never forget you. You were the best!!

I will always cherish many fond memories. But the one that I like the most was when you use to take us kids to the drive-in theatre. I always thought it was really cool how she would stay and let us watch the second viewing of the first movie because we always wanted to watch it again. I was one happy kid. Mom, you were the best. Your forever loving son Phillip
