Marseilles Edward Bayer, age 85, passed away on Friday, June 15, 2012. He was born in Menasha on February 12, 1927, the son of the late Elias and Lucy (Urban) Bayer. At the age of 17, Marsh enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre. Marsh married his wife, Doris Coonen, on August 5, 1950 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Menasha. Doris preceded Marsh in death on June 19, 1992. Marsh worked for many years until his retirement from American Can Company as an accountant. He bagged his first buck, a ten pointer, in 2005, at the age of 78. In October of 2010, Marsh was thrilled and honored to participate in the honor flight to Washington D.C. to view the military memorials, especially the World War II memorial.

Marsh loved to golf, fish, listen to polka music and was an avid Packer fan. He spent many years donating his time to the American Red Cross and the City of Menasha Board of Appeals. He was proud of the 300 game he bowled in 1974 at Midtown Lanes and that he had traveled to 50 states.

Marsh is lovingly survived by his children: Daniel (Mary) Bayer of Neenah, Gary (Nance) Bayer of Appleton, Gerald (Katie) Bayer of Menasha, Kathleen (Kenneth) Lyons of Appleton, Jan (John) Wianecki of Menasha; grandchildren: David (Jessica) Bayer, Haley (Jeff) Mueller, Kimberlee Bayer, Brett Bayer, Christopher Bayer, Craig Bayer; great-grandchildren: Olivia and Ava Bayer; step-grandchildren: Amanda Dobson, Daniel Wianecki, Heather (Chad) Guthu; sisters: Virginia Pozolinski and Marion Lynch; sister-in-law, Eileen Coonen, many nieces and nephews and former wife and friend, Grace Bayer.

Marsh is preceded in death by brother, Norbert Bayer; sister, Helen (Gilbert) Weiland and brothers-in-law: Bernard Pozolinski, Sylvester Lynch, Marvin Coonen, sister-in-law, Eunice (Howard) Wendt and Robert Walker.

Marsh's family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Beth DuChateau and all the staff at Thedacare Hospice for all their love, care and support for Marsh.

A memorial fund has been established in Marsh's name.

For many years I have had the pleasure of meeting with Marsh at McDonalds. Marsh's wisdom, wit and friendship will be very much missed. Until we meet again, keep the coffee pot going. God Bless!

Dear Grandpa,

You will be missed so much Grandpa, you were such a great man who has inspired many! I will always remember the Tom's Drive In after Chris's baseball games getting ice cream, and who could forget being stuck in the vice! I love you, and will miss you so much Grandpa.
