Orville Stine Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 14, 2013.

Orville Clyde Stine, age 84 passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in the early morning of January 13, 2013. He is survived by his devoted wife Clara of 61 years, daughters Sherie', Diana, Camille, sons Bruce, Brian, five grandchildren, and one great grandson. He was born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1928 in Washington, Oklahoma and spent his early years growing up in Redrock and Norman, OK. He was born into a farming family who eventually moved west after losing the farm due to the Dust Bowl during the Great Depression. Ultimately they ended up in Lomita, California. In 1946 he graduated from Narbonne High School in Harbor City. He enlisted in the Army in 1949 and served in South Korea. He attended college on the GI Bill and earned his Bachelors degree in Business Administration at Cal State Long Beach.Orville met Clara on a blind date in Mammoth, CA where he showed off by breaking his leg skiing and yet still was somehow able to woo the beautiful young Cuban girl. That weekend Clara said to him, "I know you are going to ask me to marry you." Sure enough, six months later they were married in September of 1951 and moved to Long Beach where they raised their five children. Orville loved the outdoors; camping, hiking, backpacking, fishing, skiing, body surfing and skin diving. Every summer he would take his family on wonderful vacations to Yosemite Valley. He was always an avid reader and loved escaping to the library. He worked as a Foreman and ultimately the Plant Supervisor for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Plant in LA for 36 years, until he retired. After
retirement he stayed active building furniture with his brother in law, doing restoration and building canvas stretcher bars from his home workshop. He deeply loved his immediate and extended family and spent his life selflessly attending to us all.
Orville will be forever loved and never forgotten.

I am so sorry to hear about Orville's passing. He was a wonderful man and a definite influence during my teenage years. I would drive by and see him standing outside. My sympathies to his wonderful family. Love, Tina

Ralph & Nancy Mauger

Ralph and I were so sorry to hear of Orville's passing. We saw him a few months ago at the Dr.'s office with Clara. We are happy that we had the oppportunity to visit with them for a few minutes. Orville was a good neighbor and friend. He also was Ralph's boss at Goodyear. He had a great sense of humor and could make a mean drink!!
