Raymond J. Vanover, 78, of Louisville, passed away at his home on the afternoon of March 1, 2013. He was born on October 1, 1934 to John W. and Elizabeth Hussman Vanover, both who preceded him in death.
Also preceding him was his loving wife of 46 years, Norma Jean Smith Vanover and son, Gregory Vanover, along with siblings, Arellia, Jimmy, Bill, Mary and Dorothy.
He was retired from National Distillers and after retirement Ray became a painter. He was a fun loving guy and always a had a joke for everyone. He was an avid golfer, bowler, bingo and pinnochle player, and a member of St. Therese Catholic Church.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Stephanie (Mike) Sallee, Michele (Vinnie) Atria, Raymond II (Phyllis), Vincent (Judy) Vanover, and Johnna (Tim) Reece; siblings, Betty Zipperle, Clara (Joe) Rosenbaum, Jackie (Dan) Dowdle, Norma (Bob) Fry, Dodi (Bob) Moody, Judy (Simon) Pescador, Linda (Tim) Clark, and Johnny Vanover, Jr.; 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild. His great friend, Art Koenig and his many many friends from the ole Seidenfadens and St. Martin's brotherhood.
A Mass of Christian burial celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 2 p.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church, 1010 Schiller Avenue, with interment in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. at the Arch L Heady -Russman Funeral Home, 1201 East Oak Street.
