Robert "Bob" Thompson, age 84, a resident of Hayward, passed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.
Robert Duain Thompson was born on January 2, 1930, in Rochester, MN to parents Paul and Eloise Thompson. In 1936, the family moved to Exeland, WI. He graduated from Winter High School in 1947. He owned the Ojibwa Grocery Store until he was drafted into the U.S. Air Force in 1951. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and on June 25, of the same year was united in marriage to Elaine Stauffer in Holcomb, WI. Bob then began farming and started his excavation business. He logged in the winter and for many years sold Christmas trees in Evanston, IL with this father and brothers. In 1986, he started Thompson Sand & Gravel in Hayward, WI. He developed the cranberry marsh on the homestead which brought him a lot of enjoyment. He retired in 1997 from Thompson Sand & Gravel. He enjoyed making maple syrup, hunting, fishing in Canada, and playing various musical instruments. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing on the Chippewa Flowage with his grand and great grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife, Elaine, children: Dave & Pam McLellan, Tom Thompson, Paul & Lisa Thompson, Dan & Cheryl Thompson, Mark & Rita Thompson, grandchildren: Marisha & Steve Schletty, Paul & Laura McLellan, Joy & Jason Bourassa, JT Thompson, Cody Thompson, Sarah Thompson, Robert Thompson, Kelly & Tony Butterfield, Jessica Everette, Thomas Lancaster, Isaiah Thompson, Cheri & Chris Johnson, Tyler McSweeney, Joshua Thompson, Danielle Thompson, Sarah & Corey Moeller, many, many great grandchildren, brothers and sisters: Pauline & Cliff Anderson, Max & Lois Thompson, Phillip & Susan Thompson, Russel & Becky Thompson, Lori Cahoon, Donald & Faye Thompson, Ralph & Janet Thompson, and Mary & Frank Parsons.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Georgiana Thompson, Billy Thompson, Linda Thompson, and Grace Smallwood.
Funeral services for Bob Thompson will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at the Hayward Wesleyan Church with Pastor Tim Jerry officiating followed by Military Honors at the Church. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014, from 4-7pm, at the Anderson Nathan Koerpel Funeral Home and also from 10-11 am on Tuesday at the Church. Interment will be at the Windfall Cemetery in Exeland.
Casket bearers will be Paul McLellan, JT Thompson, Cody Thompson, Robert Thompson, Isaiah Thompson, Tyler McSweeney, Tony Butterfield standing for Joshua Thompson.
Honorary casket bearer will be grandson Joshua Thompson who is currently serving in Afghanistan.
