My deepest condolences to the entire Sandlin family. I knew Steve many many years ago when we went to Jr High and High School together. He was such a fun, popular guy..very well-liked by everyone! And a star basketball player as well! I have wonderful memories of Steve. My sincere sorrow for your loss.

I did not know Steve personally. My parents, Fred and Lois Williams were friends of Dean and Lindy Sandlin and I remember them from when I was a young girl. I know my parents loved the "Sandlin" family. We all went to the Richland Nazarene Church. My sympathy and prayers to the family. Wynell Williams Fishburne.

I just found out about Steves passing from the folks at Camaros.net. It's hard to say goodbye to someone whom I've never met, though we're descendants from two brothers that came across the ocean many, many moons ago. I became aware of Steve while searching the internet and camaro sites a few years back. I've been building at a 1967 and 1968 camaro for all of my military career and thought it was very cool someone with my family name was a rather big deal in elite car circles. I made up my mind I would get out to Las Vegas or Nellis AFB one day and make contact. I guess that time will have to wait, until then, my sincerest prayers and sympathies go out to all Steve's family and friends. I'm very proud to have been associated by name.

For Beth and the entire Sandlin family, I extend my most sincere sympathies. The shear number of fond tributes for Steve speak volumes to the positive impact he had on so many lives. I count myself very lucky to have known Steve. In high school we were a real "Mutt and Jeff" him being 6'6" and me 5'6", it seemed that Steve could block my shot from anywhere on the court when we played one on one either at his house or mine. It was a true honor to stand with Steve when he married Beth. When my wife, Val, and I honeymooned in Alaska Steve and Beth were very gracious and generous in welcoming us to their fishing lodge on the Kenai River. I will miss Steve and am so happy to have been able to spend time with him and his family in Alaska some 10 years ago.

April 16, 2011

I too would like to add my condolances to the Sandlin family on Steve's passing. I have known Steve since grade school at Jason Lee and all the way through high school. After graduation Steve and I did some "hanging out" after our families moved to San Jose in the summer of '67. I would go watch him play in some city league BB games where he was as powerful on those courts as he was as a Bomber. I was happy to see he was able to expand his court prowess to so many other aspects of his life as a family man, business man and friend to so many. Mark DeVoss (San Jose Ca,)

Steve and I graduated together and played little league, basketball and many other sports together. He was a true friend and we shared many great times together playing for the Richland Bombers. We pulled many pranks on the lowly sophomore JV players riding with us to games around the Yakima valley and our coach, Art Dawald, never caught on 'cause we were his senior angels. My Deepest sympathy to all the Sandlin Family and relatives.

My earliest memories involve Steve,Beth,Erin, and Jason. You let me fly with you to see my dad on the ranch when I was a little boy, gave me my first rifle for my birthday, killed my first Bull on your ranch, and you paid me to deckhand your fishing boat in Alaska. (I would have done that one for free ;)I don't know if you know what everything meant to me, but now you do. I always looked up to you Sir. We all think the best of you

I would like to write something myself. Sitting here letting the many memories I have of Steve fill my head so many words come to mine. Competitor, Wise, Giving,Willing, Explorer are but a few. Some of my most prized memories I owe to Steve and Beth Sandlin. Four wheeling in Utah, Elk hunting in Colorado, Sunrises over the Keni, to the biggest fish I ever caught. .

Steve was a amazing host from soup to nuts everything was thought out with absolute attention to every detail. Hunting trips were thought out months before hand, maps gone over and over, scouting trips taken to assure the best hunting grounds. Supplies were brought tents were packed because...The game was a foot.

So, Steve you go on ahead do some recon set up the camp I can't think of a better guild to have when I get to the other side ..... We, will all be along shortly......

I knew Steve through middle/junior high school and high school and sat behind him alphabetically for years. His humor and wit were and are unsurpassed. He lit up the back corner and was always humble even when he became the basketball star. His friends at Columbia High, class of 1967 will miss him, celebrate his life, and cherish our memories.

Oh how I will miss the laugh and wit of the most generous man I have ever known. There are so many memories that my head is reeling. We were so fortunate to have the Sandlins in our lives in such a big way; a best friend; an amazing godfather to our son Cameron, etc. We are so filled with sadness and will miss you but never, ever will forget you. My best friend is gone. Although it is such a cliche, "there are no words." Although a person of words, I find it overwhelming to even attempt to reduce to words how many good, kind and generous thigs SS did for so many in his far too short lifetime. I also cannot adequately explain my feelings for my friend. I did have the priviledge of 25 years of a very close friendship with Steve and his family and experienced most all aspects of life with him during that time. Many battles, many victories, many fun momories and experiences that will last life times and be told for many years to come. Steve did things first class and took great joy in providing a first class experience for others, including my family. I know how much he loved his family. Jason, Erin, the grand-kids and the love of his life; Beth who supported Steve in every way and all ways.Beth was everything to Steve. My prayers are with Beth,Jase and Erin. Steve will be waiting for you with open arms. God knows all the good Steve did while he was here. Until I see you again Steve; "I love you too." RBC

After hearing about Steve's passing I sat quietly and was at first very sad of course, but as I let the memories of our business and personal relationship so many years ago, play out, I began to smile and after awhile even chuckled as I remembered those times.
Perhaps the most that our fellows can say about us is that we were unique. Then let it be said that “Steve was just that, unique." Humor, intensity and compassion made him the man I knew and will miss.
Beth, my sympathy and love to you and your children and grandchildren, I wish you comfort and solace at this time in your lives. I can say with certainty that I am better as a result of having known Steve.

Sandlin Family,

Words just don't say enough about the sadness I feel for your family's loss. I am reminded of the blessing my family and friends are in my life and know that this is why God brings great people into our lives... because at time like this it is impossible to stand alone.

When I heard that your family made the decision to donate Steve's organs I was not at all shocked. I know for some that's a hard decision but for your family, I can't imagine it was, it was yet another selfless decision that will go on to bless the recipients and their families... How fitting that your father was still giving, even in death!

My family owes Steve so much! He has been a blessing to my Mother and Brother in providing them with the ability to attend school. This contribution to their future has been a blessing to us kids and to Brandon's family now, all due to the generosity of Steve and your family! I hope that even as times have been difficult he recognized the long lasting impact he has made for our family and so many others.

Steve was certainly a man of great character and charity. The thoughts and prayers of the entire Elder family are with you all at this trying time. Please let us know if you need anything at all.

Mrs. Sandlin, Beth, Jason, Erin and families, its hard to say goodbye to someone I call a brother. Steve will be greatly missed and never forgotten. He helped out so many people in just the past 14 years I have known him including my family. From Helping guys with their cars to helping our troops overseas with Satellite phones so they can talk with their families over the holidays to his different charities for kids camps. He is now with his hero/mentor and watching down over his family. God Bless him on his new journey.
