Steven Sisko Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 26, 2012.

Steven Sisko, age 55, a resident of Hunter Township, died on Monday, December 24, 2012, while being in his beloved outdoors.

Steven Curtis Sisko was born on July 12, 1957, in Hazel Park, Michigan to parents Stephan and Angeline (Sypniewski) Sisko. He moved to the Hayward area at the age of 11 when his parents purchased the Kavanaugh Resort which was renamed Sisko's Pine Point Resort. Steve has always been very athletic, an avid outdoorsman, and a well-known hunting, fishing, and trapping guide in the area. He will also be remembered as a father who loved his children, a good and loyal husband and friend who was always there whenever anyone needed anything, and for having a heart as big as the great outdoors that he loved so much.

Steven is survived by his wife Laura, son Stephen of St. Paul, MN, daughter Aubrey of Springbrook, WI, mother Angeline Sisko of Hayward, WI, brother Gary (Diane) of Woodbury, MN, nieces and nephews: Megan, Taryn, Raymond, Alyssa, Adam, Rebecca, James, and many other family and friends.

Steven is preceded in death by his father Stephan and brother Glenn.

Memorials may be directed, and would be greatly appreciated, in Steven's name to Laura Sisko to be designated at her discretion.

Where do I begin? My first experience with Sisko's Pine Point Resort was in 1980, the year I graduated from high school, when I ventured to the Chippewa Flowage for the very first time with my cousin and a friend, in search of the mysterious and elusive musky. We ended up spending the night in the car in Sisko's parking lot before renting a boat from Steve Sr. and family and having my first experiejnce fishing on the hauntingly beautiful lake with would eventually take the life of my friend. Over the years, as I transitioned from an unruly post-teen into a man with a family of his own, I missed maybe only 3 or 4 summers of spending at least one trip to Sisko's. My kids eventually learned to appreciate the magic of the place as well, and we all looked forward to arriving at the campground and eventually receiving our personal greeting from the man we came to know and love. His presence was one of the constants in my life, and now I and my entire family will deeply miss his smile, his energy, his fishing advice, and the man we came to know as the owner of one of our favorite places on earth. Our hearts go out to his family as we cope with our own deep sense of loss. May God rest your soul, Steve, and thank you for a lifetime of memories.

I met Steve when I was a young professor at the University of Wisconsin-Superior in the late 70s. His passion for the outdoors was quite evident, but what really struck me was how genuine and caring the young man was. He was willing (and able) to take me Musky fishing, anytime that I could find the time. His energy and excitement for living poured from his being like water from a pitcher. I just now heard of his passing. He will be missed.

I'm very sorry to hear of Steve's passing. He was a great guy, always willing to help when he could. I will never forget the day I hired steve as a fishing guide. We caught a few walleye's and panfish on that rainy day. Anytime I spent time at the resort Steve always remembered that day and the rainbow we were fishing under. He will be missed.

So very sorry. I had the pleasure of knowing Steve while running a delivery route for D&D Ent( Donnie n Dorothy Hogan) in the early 2000s. Was definately one of my favorite stops. Such a kind, friendly, caring person. Always had time to chat about whatever. He was always busy working on something but even so his zest for life and passion for everything he did shined through. Some people have a way of touching everyones life and making their lives richer for knowing them. Steve is one of those people. His legacy lives on in so many hearts and minds. Bless you and thank you Steve.

We were all shocked and so saddened to hear of Steve's death. He had gone through so much with his health the past years. Our whole family looked forward to the opportunities to talk with Steve when we came on vacation. Loved listening to his stories, drink the "bloody brains", and hear his wonderful laugh. If it hurts in the pit of our stomachs...we can only imagine how you, Laura, Steve, and Aubrey must feel. Mrs. Sisko (Angie) we ache for you for the loss of another son. To say that Steve will be missed is totally inadequate. His absence will leave a void in the lives of his family and friends that will never be filled or forgotten. I have known him over 25 years and he was the hardest working least pretentious person I have known. His love of the land, the Flowage and the Northwoods was inspiring and never to be forgotten by those who were priviledged to have known him.
