Mr. Thomas Edward "Bus" Benfield, Sr., 94, of Morganton, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, June 23, 2010, while at the Burke Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Valdese. Born September 20, 1915, in Burke County, he was a son of the late John Benfield and Fannie Mincey Benfield. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Walker Benfield, five brothers, Paul, Melvin, Ray, Ralph and Ned Benfield, a sister, Vivian Duckworth and two grandsons, Gregory & Brian Houser. He was a member of the Oak Hill United Methodist Church.
Mr. Benfield's memory will be cherished by his son, Tom Benfield & wife, Mickie, of Morganton;a daughter, Katherine Houser & husband, Harvey, of Morganton;a brother, Bob Benfield, of Morganton;two sisters, Doris Franklin and Fannie Whisnant, both of Morganton;also surviving are three grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Benfield will be held 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 26, 2010, in the Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton, with the Reverend Mark Denton officiating. Interment will follow at the Oak Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Burke Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.

To Tom ,Mickie and Ricky am so sorry to learn of the passing of Mr. Benfield there will be many rough days ahead just know he is pain free and in a much better place today. may you feel the comfort and loving arms of Jesus today as you face the next few day's ahead , but just know there will be better days ahead.. love you all your one time long ago neighbor Joann Riddle
