Arlynn Thompson Battenfield, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Thursday morning, May 23, 2013. Arlynn was born on June 29, 1928, in Quincy, Illinois, a daughter of the late Glen and Lenore Thompson. At 16 years of age, she graduated from Reagan High School in Houston, Texas, and then attended Rice University where she met her husband-to-be, Raymond Louis (R.L.) Battenfield. Arlynn graduated from Rice with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Arlynn was a loving wife, mother, and sister. She taught pre-kindergarten and kindergarten for 17 years at Chapelwood United Methodist Church. She loved music, dancing, horse-back riding, camping, traveling, playing bridge, and boating, as well as many other activities. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 32 years, R.L. Battenfield in 1979. Arlynn leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her sister, Mary Lynn Bowles; her eldest son, Glenn Louis Battenfield and his wife, Linda; by her youngest son, Raymond Simes Battenfield and his wife, Christi; by her four grandchildren, Tracey Lynn Battenfield Frahler, Lindsey Cheryl Battenfield Lane, Kevin Glenn Battenfield, and Joshua Jude Stucker; and by her four great-grandchildren, Audrey Karen Frahler, Clinton Richard Jr. (C.J.) Frahler, and Logan Jonathan Lane. Funeral services will be 10:00 am on Friday, May 31, 2013 at Chapel of Eternal Peace at Forest Park, 2454 S. Dairy Ashford, Houston, TX 77077 (281-531-8180).
