Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Collier-Butler Funeral Home for Charles “Chuck” Davis, who passed away Saturday, November 10, 2012 after an extended illness. Services will be officiated by the Reverend Robbie Hendrick. Burial will be at Forrest Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., with services at 2:00.
Chuck was preceded in death by his first wife, Rachel Langston Davis; parents, Victor and Mary Toy Davis; and brothers Floyd, Doyle, and Van Evan.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Betty Davis; and his children, Michael (Janna) and Robert K. (Cheryl) Davis, sisters-in-law: Carla (Lee) Alley and Patsy Owens. He is also survived by three nieces and a nephew.
Chuck was in banking for over 46 years; the last half of which was spent in Gadsden. Born in Houston, MS, he moved to Gadsden in the 1970’s. He was a member of Rainbow Presbyterian Church.
He volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1941. After training in Airborne Infantry and Jump School, he was assigned to the 75th Division and was shipped to France. He fought with the 287th Airborne Infantry, backing up the 101st Division. He fought at the battle at Heckslave, France, and was recommended for a Silver Star. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded. After the war, he was decorated with the Combat Infantry Badge and Four Battle Stars. He returned to service in 1950 during the Korean War, serving as Company Commander for the 1st Cavalry Division and earning two Battle Stars before his discharge in 1953.
His civic work included: service as Deacon of the First Baptist Church, March of Dimes, Salvation Army, United Way, Kiwanis Club, Quarterback Club, Rotary Club, Sr. PGA Golf volunteer, and the Gadsden Country Club, where he was a past president. On November 7, 2012, Chuck was inducted into the Gadsden-Etowah Patriots Association Hall of Honor.

Pallbearers will be: Van Owens, Taylor Holland, J.R. King, Harry McLendon, Monroe Holland, Don Wilson, and Charles Moore.
Honorary pallbearers include: Dr. Ralph Wesley, Sherman Guyton, Lee Alley, and George Morris.
