A memorial service for Doris Rich Alvoid will be held 11 o'clock, Saturday, March 10, 2012, in Christ's Chapel at Washington Street United Methodist Church with The Rev. Dr. William R. Childs officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church parlor prior to the service beginning at 10 o'clock. Memorials may be made to Washington Street United Methodist Church, 1401 Washington Street, Columbia, SC 29201. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Mrs. Alvoid died, Tuesday, March 6, 2012. A lifelong resident of Columbia, she was a daughter of the late James Leonard and Mable Whittle Rich. Doris's outgoing personality made her many friends over the years. She was fond of Christmas time with her family as well as cooking.
Survivors include her son, Rollin O. (Julie) Alvoid, III of Marietta, GA; daughter, Linda Alvoid of Oakland, CA; sister-in-law, Martha Alvoid Brooker; grandchildren, Rollin O. "Tripp" Alvoid, IV, Jennifer Muckelvaney; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Alvoid was preceded in death by three brothers and her husband, Rollin O. Alvoid, Jr.
