Drifford "Nooney" Helms Jr. passed away June 9, 2014 after a long illness surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 14, 1933 to the late Drifford Helms Sr. and Ruth Lucas Helms.

Nooney is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Brenda Helms of Gastonia; children, Shebra Auten and husband, Rusty of Gastonia, Donna Thomas and husband, David of Clover, SC, Drifford H. Helms III and wife Holly of Mebane, Ray Parrott of Gastonia; grandchildren, Kristin and husband Kyle, Stephen, Whitney, Kaitlyn, Ashton, Michelle, Chance, Rayford Jr. and Kyle; sister, Margaret Henson of Kings Mt., NC; special friends who are like family, Patrick, Cindy, Shaylah and Emily.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Clover, 117 S. Main St., Clover, SC. Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of Shebra and Rusty Auten, 211 Dallas-Spencer Mt. Road, Gastonia, NC 28056.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Gaston Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054.
