Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 8311 W. 93rd St., Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donation to your favorite charity .
Ed was born on December 9, 1924 in Kansas City, MO. After graduating from Rockhurst High School he served in the U.S. Army as a combat infantryman in WWII and rose to the rank of Capt. in the U.S. Army Reserve. On June 5, 1948 he married the love on his life, Norma Jean Quick in Beloit, KS. After graduating from Kansas State Univ. with a degree in chemical engineering, he worked for Colgate Palmolive for 33 years in several different locations, most of his overseas work was in Asia and Africa, before retiring in 1986. Ed and Norma were married until her death in 1987. He was later married to Mary F. Scott in 1992. She also preceded him in death.
Ed was a KS registered professional engineer #3217, he had been a member of the American Inst. Of Plant Engineers, American Legion Post #370, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus 4th degree, 75th Infantry Division Association, K-State Alumni Association, Rockhurst High School Alumni and Rhine and Danube Association.
He is survived by his daughters, Susan (Eddie) Roberts of Basehor, KS and Mary (Jim) Merchlewicz of St. Cloud, MN; grandchildren, Brandon (Ashlee) Schwartz, Jenn Schwartz, Heather Roberts, Ashley Roberts; step grandchildren, Mark (Charlotte) Merchlewicz and Peter (Suzanne) Merchlewicz; nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
Ed loved his family, his church, and his country. He will be missed.
