Mrs. Flora Jane McKinney Atwood, 103, of Marion, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at her residence. Born on September 22, 1908 in McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late Dewayne Hagen McKinney and Martha Louise Chapman McKinney.

Mrs. Atwood was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and an avid sewer and quilter who loved flowers and gardening. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Atwood; son, Donald Atwood; daughter, Kathlean Parker and grandson, Ronnie Dean Atwood; daughters-in-law, Juantia Atwood and Helga Atwood; and sons-in-law, Marvin Stewart and Tom McAbee.

She is survived by her daughters, Vernie Mae Stewart of Marion, Naomi McAbee of Huntsville, AL, Jean Gilliland of Marion and Marie Fender and her husband, Max of Nebo; sons, Johnny A. Atwood of Marion, David Atwood and his wife, Lane Odella of Marion and Roy Lee Atwood of Ridgecrest; 28 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Reverend Rick Wood, the Reverend Richard Merritt and Joe Duncan officiating. Mrs. Atwood will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow the service in North Cove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening, April 28, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Kirksey Funeral Home in Marion.
