“Bub” as he was known, was born 01 July 1941 in Cottonport, LA to George Cannon Sr. and Mary Theresa Walton Adkins. He passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at his home. He was the grandson of Thomas Morgan and Lucretia Foret Adkins and Fred Arthur and Lydia Walton Clarke. He attended Louisiana State University, served his country in the US Army in Germany from 1964 to 1969 and then followed his dad’s footsteps, becoming a pipefitter working out of Local Union 198. When he retired in 2004 he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and he battled this disease all of his retired years. He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting and fishing. He trained his faithful companions, his beagles, on his property in Central. Bub was a “Jack of All Trades.” There was nothing he could not do and did for his family and friends. He is survived by his brother, W. E. “Bill” Adkins and wife, Janelle “Jimmie”; four sisters, Carol Williams and husband, Charles, Barbara Adkins, Rose Mary Smith, and Bonita Louis and husband, David; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Saturday, April 5, 2014, from 12 PM until funeral service at 2 PM. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be David Louis, Corey Louis, Casey Louis, Fred Walton, Perry Walton, and Steven Adkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Adkins and Charles Williams. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, St. Joseph’s Hospice or Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home in Monroe, LA. The family would like to thank his at home care givers, who the family considers his special Angels, and St. Joseph’s Hospice for your care and compassion.
