Mr. JR. Abner, , age 73, of Artemus, KY, departed this life on Sunday, May 19, 2013, in the Baptist Health Center in Corbin, KY. He was the son of the late James and Gracie Bruner Abner. He was born on September 2, 1939, in Artemus, KY.
On August 18, 1961, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Jean Chaves and to this union two children were born. Mr. Abner was preceded in death by his parents, James and Gracie Bruner Abner, and his wife Carolyn Jean Abner. He is also preceded in death by three brothers, Bob Abner, Mitchell Abner, and Claude "Bo" Abner; one sister, Ruby Abner; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Abner, Shirley Abner, and Phyllis Abner, and two brothers-in-law, Willie Shelton and Bill Tom Miller.
Left behind to mourn his passing is one son, Mike Abner and wife Stella, Artemus, KY, and one daughter, Jill Angel and husband Danny Angel, Artemus, KY; his loving devoted companion Janet Van Fossen and her two daughters, Wendy Brown and husband Neil, and Kelly Shelton and husband Willie Ray; three grandchildren, James Michael, Adam and Brooke; two brothers, Clarence Abner and wife Priscilla, Artemus, KY, and Troy Abner, Artemus, KY; two sisters, Cindy Shelton, Artemus, KY, and Amanda Miller, Artemus, KY; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Abner, Artemus, KY; and several great grandchildren and other loved ones to mourn his passing.
Funeral services for Mr. JR. Abner, , will be conducted in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Denvil Taylor and Rev. Rick Partin officiating. Pallbearers will be Neil Brown, Daniel Alsip, Jeff Creighton, Steve Abner, John Rose and Tim Smith. Honorary pallbearers are his Everhart Campground Friends, and his flea market buddies. Burial will follow in the Stewart Abner Cemetery at Artemus, KY. Hampton Funeral home is in charge of all arrangements.
Friends will be received at the Hampton Funeral on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m., and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m.
