Jim Best, age 69, passed away suddenly on October 27, 2010. Jim is preceded in death by brother Billy Wayne Sutton, father Bill Best and mother Leila Perrigo. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Vou Best, daughter Terry (Corky) Dreibelbis, son Bubba (Lynn) Best, daughter Tracy Mangold, daughter Linda (Lou) Sangurima, brother Don(Kathy) Best, sister Sandra Best, brother Tom Best, nine grandchildren, Royce Dreibelbis, Cody Best, Brandon Best, Sid Sandefur, Ned Sandefur, Logan Mangold, Trent Mangold, James Farris, Robi Ann Farris, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born Aug. 10, 1941, in San Juan, Texas and a lifelong resident of the Rio Grande Valley area, he and his wife moved to Seguin, Texas six years ago. In 1958, fresh out of high school, Jim partnered in a land conservation business with his brother, Don Best. The brothers worked ranches all across South Texas. His devotion to the youth of the Rio Grande Valley was evident in his active involvement with the local 4-H Club and as a volunteer Director of the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show. His dedication to the community continued in Seguin where he served as a member of the Seguin Activity Center board of directors. Jim was forever willing to help anyone with whom he came into contact.
Jim was an avid hot rod hobbyist who participated enthusiastically in the New Braunfels Area Car Club. His love of life and passion for experiencing it to the fullest were most undeniable when he raced cars and flew airplanes.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Jim make a donation to the New Braunfels Area Car Club Scholarship Fund at 4570 Barbarosa Rd. Seguin, Tx 78155 or the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show Scholarship Fund at 1000 N. Texas Avenue, Mercedes, TX 78570. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 1 at the First Baptist Church in Seguin, 1314 East Cedar Street.

We are saddened to hear of Jim's passing. Even though we didn't see each other often after we became adults and lived so far apart, we still thought of him and Don and Sandra as family. I last saw Jim several years ago when he came to Phoenix on business and we had the opportunity to get together for an evening of reminisence and dinner. We have Jim's family in our prayers and think of you all during this difficult time.

Jim was a man to ride the trail with....A good honest, caring, generous person, who was a definate class act....and he had a good head on his shoulders... Jim and I didn't really meet until around ten years back but I knew who he was was that day and knew that he was a friend you could count on being there. It is my loss that I wasn't able to be around him more often. He will be missed by many...including Jann & I. I will always call him my friend...

Jim was a God-sent angel and was there for my family since the early 70's. For years, I heard about how wonderful Jim was with my father as a boss and friend. My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting him back in 1998 and were lucky enough to share some great conversations with him. I pray God returns the kindness to Jim's loved ones ten-fold. Rest in Peace, Jim....Gracias por todo.
