James D. "Jim" Logue
COLUMBIA – James D. "Jim" Logue, 64, respectfully referred to as Sensei by his many martial arts students and colleagues, died Tuesday, November 15, 2011, after a long and arduous battle with cancer.
Jim was born January 12, 1947, the second son of Harlee Burdette Logue and T.A. Logue. He was a member of St. Andrews Baptist Church. He attended Columbia public schools and graduated from Columbia High School. Jim attended the University of South Carolina prior to his service in the U.S. Army. After a tour of duty, he began a career in nuclear engineering, first at Allied General Nuclear Services for eleven years, and later at Westinghouse Savannah River for twenty-four years.
Jim devoted much of his adult life to the study and dissemination of the skills and philosophy of the Ryukyu Kempo form of martial arts. He was a 9th degree black belt and the owner and head instructor of the Kenpukan Dojo in Lexington, SC.
Jim is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 43 years, Sherry Abel Logue; their two children, Troy Logue (Christine) of Denver, CO, and Melisa Logue Harris (Chuck) of Columbia, SC; three wonderful grandchildren, Thor, Christian, and Carter; and a brother, John Logue (Carolyn West) of Columbia, SC.

Sensei Logue was a true Master. I have had the privilege to get to know and train with Mr. Logue over the past few years and I am very grateful to have received the knowledge he was so willing to share. I will miss his dry wit and quiet nature. He was a good man. I will miss him greatly and remember him always in my training.

I never got the chance to meet Mr. Logue, but it is a tribute to the man that the testimony about him from so many different people is so consistent: a wonderful man, dedicated teacher, a true example.

I have only had the pleasure of attending one of Tashi Logue's seminars and it was pleasure and honor to see such a strong and powerful man be so humble and unassuming. My thoughts are with your family and rest your soul now from this horrible disease.

Having know Tashi Logue in the martial arts for over 20 years I am very saddened to see Tashi loose his battle with cancer. Tashi was not only a great person, martial artist and teacher to all of us that studied with him,but a leader and a friend to all of us studying Tiaka's ways. May God bless the family and he is finally home with the good lord. We love you and will miss you Tashi! Rob-Wichita

I knew Jimmy from Columbia High. He was a sweet guy and everybody liked him. Jimmy was blessed with a great, kinda twisted sense of humor. The last time I spoke with him was at our reunion--he looked over the room full of attendees and said, with a deadpan look: "Most of the guys don't look that different from high school but why did so many of them bring their mothers to the reunion?" I will never forget how hard I laughed. He will be missed. Frank Geiger CHS '65

It was with great sadness that I received the news today of Jim's passing. He was my first office mate when I arrived at SRS and we shared lunch for several years after we had moved to different jobs/offices. He was a great man with pride dignity and respect; bot for himself and others. The world was a better place for having him in it and has been lessened by his passing. May God be with you and comfort you.
