Jeanette Addkison Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 1, 2010.

Jeanette G. Addkison, 74, died on June 30, 2010, after a long illness. She leaves behind her husband, Nolan A. Addkison of Jackson, MS and her brother, Mac Andrew Greganti of Chapel Hill, NC. She will be greatly missed by her sister-in-law, Susan Taylor Greganti of Chapel Hill, NC,, and her brother-in-law, Dominic A. Bevalaque of Jackson, MS. She leaves behind her three nephews, Paul A. Greganti and Mack Taylor Greganti of Chapel Hill, NC and John Bevalaque of Richland, MS; and two nieces, Mary Catherine Hall of Chapel Hill, NC and Monique Yeary of Greensboro, NC. She also will be missed by a great niece and two great nephews who never got to know her.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, Mack A. Greganti and Grace Margaret Greganti, both of Merigold, MS; her brother, Frank Paul Greganti; and her sister, Mary Frances Bevalaque.

Jeanette was born on January 14, 1936. She grew up in Merigold, MS. After high school, she chose a road not usually taken in those days, especially by a young woman just out of high school, going to work for the FBI in Washington, DC, under J. Edgar Hoover. She rapidly developed excellent skills as a secretary and advanced in her chosen field, later serving as an administrative secretary to Senator James O. Eastland while he served for many years as one of Mississippi's senators in Washington. Following her work with Senator Eastland, she served as the chief financial administrator for the Bankruptcy Court in Jackson, MS. Jeanette retired in her late 50's but did not stop working. She served faithfully as a volunteer in the pastoral office at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, MS, for several years before fully retiring.

The family asks that any remembrances be given in her honor to St. Catherine's Village, in Madison, MS, where she spent the last six to seven months of her life. The care provided to her by the staff of St. Catherine's was exemplary, as it was for her beloved father who spent the last years of his life at St. Catherine's.

Visitation will be 4-6pm today at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on High St. in Jackson followed by a prayer service at 6:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00am Saturday July 3, 2010 at the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle in Jackson preced by visiation at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park.

We were so sorry to hear today of Jeannette's death. We only knew her after her marriage to my first cousin, Nolan, but always felt she was a part of the family. I'm sorry we live too far away to come now.

Jeanette and I attended grades 1-12 together in Merigold. We were good friends growing up. I last saw her in about 1964 when I was in in D. C. My sincerest condolences.
