Jo Ann Algermissen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 24, 2009.

Jo Ann Hudson Algermissen, award winning author and educator, died November 20th peacefully at home. She was 67. She will be dearly missed by her husband Henry C. Algermissen, son Henry "Hank" Algermissen, daughter Jayne Algermissen, and two granddaughters, and large, loving family. She was known as a "steel magnolia" that lit up a room with her gorgeous smile and a hearty laugh. If you had a problem on you mind she was the first to listen, and help you come up with a plan. She shared her intellect without making you feel inferior, and she gave the best hugs.

All of these things were represented in the 50 humorous novels she penned that have brought joy to many throughout the world. They included Capture the Sun, her witty book about a photographer who did an assignment for which she took pictures of the perfect features of men, where she added the unforgettable beagles from her own life. A Whole Lot of Woman, which included anecdotes from her own life, including cutting her boss's tie in half. Lastly, written as Anna Hudson, Glittering Promises in which she wrote of love in terms of shades of colors, inspiring romanticism in others. Her novels won multiple awards for Harlequin, were translated into multiple languages and she was nominated for a lifetime achievement by Romance Times.

As an educator, she inspired both students and faculty alike. In St. Louis, she marched the picket line for educator rights in Hazelwood. When she came to Texas she taught English, History and the Gifted and Talented. Students looked at her as teacher, mother and moral compass. She took all of her many roles to heart and was the spring-board to greatness for many.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 1:00 pm at Marrs-Jones Funeral Home Smithville, TX.
