Joe Don Walker passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at his residence in Merkel. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 19, 2015 from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St., Abilene. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at 2:00p.m. in the funeral home Chapel of Memories.
Joe Don was born in Lovington, New Mexico on July 18, 1949 to Joseph Pickard Walker and his wife, Opal Gay. While he grew up he was very involved in scouting. He earned his Eagle Scout Award and continued his support of scouting throughout his life. Many people will know him as the owner of Dorothy's Short Stop and Walker Gas in Merkel, TX. Those who loved him will most importantly know him as a loving family man.
He is predeceased by his mother; sister, Sally Ann Walker Boney; and a daughter, Katie Ellen Walker Dalo.
Those left to remember him with much love and fondness are his father, Pickard Joseph Walker; his dear wife of 46 years, Dorothy Walker; daughters, Tina Walker of Abilene, and Mary Elizabeth Walker Pruitt and her husband, Kevin of Arlington; five granddaughters; seven grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and two nephews.
