Joseph H. Fitts, 96, of Homer, formerly of Tekonsha, passed away at the Laurels of Coldwater, March 30, 2013. He was born July 26, 1916 in Bonaparte, Iowa, to Henry and Arlena (Love) Fitts. He married Marilyn Blackwell on October 18, 1958 in Tekonsha. She survives.
He lived in the Battle Creek and Tekonsha areas. He worked at P & M Construction, E. W. Bliss and after retirement he worked at Thurston's Furniture.
Joe was a WWII veteran serving in New Guinea. He loved gardening, fishing, reading and attending auctions. He especially loved his cat-"Blackie" and all his nieces and nephews.
Joe is survived by his wife; Marilyn, daughter; Carole Robinson (from a previous marriage), 2 grandchildren, sister-in-law, Marjorie Lloyd and brother-in-law; Melvin (Barbara) Blackwell, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Icy Mae Rurka, Josephine Cockrell, Lutie Watson, and a brother, Robert Fitts.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 12:00 Noon with one hour of visitation prior to the service at Putnam's of Tekonsha with Pastor Dave Sherfield officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ, Grand Street, Coldwater.
