Mary Kate Dean Barnhill, 91, of Jackson and Meridian, MS, passed away peacefully, on Friday, august 19, 2011 at Infinity Hospice in Marion, Mississippi.
Visitation will be 4:00-7:00pm Monday, August 22, 2011 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral services are 2:00pm Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in the funeral home chapel with interment in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Barnhill was a Past-Matron of the Leavell Woods Chapter #342 of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Rebeccas. She was a long time member of Temple Baptist Church of Jackson. She graduated from Nursing School in the 1970's and learned to drive a car at the same time. Only her grandchildren who didn't know better would ride with her! She was a woman of many accomplishments and fun to be around. She loved to travel and she and her friends would disappear on road trips and wouldn't tell her family where they went but they apparently had great adventures.
Mrs. Barnhill was the last surviving member of her immediate family of 6 brothers. And the last survivor of her husbands', Basil A. Barnhill, immediate family of 9 children. She was preceded in death by her husband Basil, and two of their 4 children, Dennis Barnhill and Bruce Barnhill. She is survived by her son , Glen Barnhill and daughter-in-law Annabelle of Casselberry, Fl. and her daughter, Freida Hudspeth and son-in-law Jerry of Macon, MS.
Mrs. Barnhill was grandmother to 5 children: Renee, Tina, Margie, Greg and Geneen; great-grandmother to
9 children: Brian, Laurie, Josh, Zach, Dallas, Megan, Lucas, Avery and T.J. And Great-great-grandmother to 5 children: Gabriel, Ethan, Madison, Jordan and Dominic. Also, Great-grandmother and great-great grandmother to an extended family of another 5, Candice, Katie, Pete, Brittany and Matt.
