I was shocked when Danette called me in Chicago with the tragic news of Keith's passing. For decades I have been walking into roomfuls of occasions alone. The thought that Keith might be there made doing so much easier because I knew he would greet me with a warm sincere "hello and how are you doing?" to put me at ease. I also loved watching how attentive he was to Jan at every given moment - almost as if they were newlyweds. Some people make a difference just by being who they are. Their inner light shines bright and touches lives both near and far. Keith was one of those people...

Dearest Jan and Family,
My deepest Sympathy, prayers and love to all of you at this time. It was so sad for me to read of Keith's passing. Such a great fun caring man. Earl and I enjoyed many good times with you both and always thought of you with such fond memories. I found it so ironic that Keith left his on his journey to heaven on March 10th as my Earl left on his journey 5 years ago also on March 10th. I will be thinking of you all as you celebrate Keith's life. I am just this week starting to drive a little after my long battle with interstichle pneumonitis lung disease which I have been fighting since June 2011 and then since Christmas a almost fatal reaction to Cipro. With warmest and loving regards to you Jan and your family. Love, Pat

I was a crew member on HMS Swiftsure when the submarine visited San Diego in 1995. It was then that I was privileged to meet Keith, my first impressions were of a big man in every sense of the word who was noble and generous even allowing me to beat him once at pool in the Ballast Pub one afternoon after numerous attempts. Keith I will always regret not having been able to lock cues again with you one last time. Rest in peace my friend.
