Mom

Marissa, my beautiful girl, it was a year ago we had dinner and then you went off to be with your friends. A "normal" night that ended up not being so... I miss you along with many others who loved you and loved being with you. Rest in peace my darlin' girl. You know how much I love you and always will. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn how deeply one can love and for giving my life the depth, color and richness that only you could bring. I'm taking good care of Blaise, with Kat's help and Parker is, well, Parker.

Just as I never needed to carry a picture of you when you were little because you were always beside me, you are with me now and always will be. I love you, Riss, and I thank you for enriching my life, giving it meaning, and bringing such happiness to me and so many others. You made me proud and you made me happy. Thank you, Riss. Thank you. I love you, always. Mom

Jan,

Beyond life's gateway there's an open gate at the end of the road through which each of us must go alone, and there, in a light we cannot see, Our Father claims His own. Those who have just left us now claim their just reward - exchanging life on earth for life forever with our Lord! May God comfort you at this time and know that Marissa is in paradise with Jesus, where you will see her again and be with her for eternity, for we are only here for such a short time. God Bless. Jan, I know I should be sleeping because we have another day of planning ahead of us tomorrow but I wanted to take a few minutes to reflect on this week. You know you are like a sister to me and anything I have done for you is what you would have done for me. You know because your heart is aching mine is aching as much. I can't ever imagine what you are going through but I feel your hurt. You have been a patient mother and you have given and devoted your life to raise Marissa and what a great job you have done. As we looked through pictures today Marissa was happy and you have to hold that close to your heart. I feel truly honored that I have spent the week with you and I know the next few days will be difficult. You know that Marissa loved you and you are loved and supported by so many people. You and I have both seen that this week...it brings tears to my eyes but they are happy. I know you will be okay because besides having dinner with me weekly there are so many others to support you. This is a parents worst nightmare and some how in some way we have we've come to peace with it...it still so hurts and we will cry always but we will laugh and smile with all the memories. I am so ever thankful that we were neighbors and have been friends for so many years. You are my best friend and you know that I am ALWAYS there for you and I know you are there for me...there's not a lot of people that can say that. I can't take away the pain but in all my heart I share it. I know there is more I want to say but that's it for tonight. You are my BFF and love you always, Robin Goettel Higgins

Jan and family,

I am so sorry about your loss. Marissa was a beautiful young woman. My heart is reaching out to you in sympathy & in prayer. May God hold you in His arms, comfort you with His everlasting love, heal the sorrow that you feel, and be your strength now and in the days ahead. I share in your sorrow as I too, have lost someone that I loved so deeply, in a tragic car accident. I know how heart-wrenching it is to have not had the chance to say good-bye. On the afternoon of March 22, 1999, I was playing cards and laughing with my dearly beloved mother. She walked out the front door, to go to work right after that, and that was the last time that I saw her alive. She was killed in a fatal car accident on her way there. What helped me get through it, is the knowledge that she is in Heaven with Jesus and is happier now than she ever was here on earth. I know that I will see her again some day. May knowing that about Marissa, bring comfort to you, as well. I hope these words convey my heartfelt sympathy at your time of loss and are a source of comfort to you, but may time accomplish what no words can do. Wishing you God's peace...

We met all the way back in 3rd grade in Mrs. Keiser's class. Who would have known that we would have ended up as friends for almost 20 years talking almost everyday just the last few months. Your parents always invited me in and I will never forget going to Florida with your dad and ALL of our inside jokes that came from that trip and going to Myrtle Beach with your mom. I will always think of them when I think about growing up in Cicero.
Even with both of us moving we managed to stay friends and it meant so much to me when your mom and you came to San Francisco for vacation and invited me to join you the whole time. I had such a hard time struggling when I first moved, you made me appreciate what I had around here. You were always amazing supportive and your enthusiasm about California only pushed me to take advantage and enjoy where I was adjusting to.

We both shared our deepest secrets with each other growing up and have so many memories together. We always knew the other person would tell the person the honest truth and be there no matter what.

I promise to continue enjoying every part of California for you because you wanted to move here and always talked about it. What I do here is in our memory. I'm thankful to start this journey off by going to back to Syracuse to say see you later where it all began and i'll return to my new home with you in mind carrying you with me so you can experience California for yourself.

Love you and Miss you.
P.S. Thank you for the last conrevsation we had. You brought up hanging out right before I moved listening to They Fray's "over my head" album and eating the lego candy and you going to jamm. I will always remember you just like that <3
