Max Whitley Robinson, 81, passed away Monday, December 31, 2012. He was born October 4, 1931 in Andrews, NC to the late George and Nell West Robinson. Max graduated from Gastonia High School in 1949 and retired from BB&T after 31 years of banking. He was a long time member of Unity Baptist Church, Gastonia, and is currently a member of First Baptist Church, Gastonia. He served 4 years in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He served as music director in several Gastonia churches. He was a member of the Golden Chorus and a life member of the Gastonia Concert Association Board of Directors.

Max is survived by his wife of 53 years, Abby Gibson Robinson of Gastonia; son, George Gibson Robinson of Kings Mt. NC, daughters, Melissa Euchner (John) of Cleveland, NC, Cynthia Stelzig (Doug) of Rock Hill, SC; three grandchildren, Catherine and Clint Euchner and Kurt Stelzig; brother, Horace Robinson of Dallas, NC, sisters, Ann Wiley of Belmont, NC, Dorothy Walker of St. Petersburg, FL, Martha Badger of Hurst, TX; sister-in-law, Karen Jenkins (Charles) of Laurinburg, NC and brother-in-law, Harry Gibson (Henrietta) of Gulf Breeze, FL; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 4 at First Baptist Church, 2650 Union Rd, Gastonia. Dr. Ray Ammons will preside. Entombment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8PM at Carothers Funeral Home, 312 W. 2nd Ave, Gastonia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 6298, Gastonia, NC 28056

So sorry to hear of Max passing! I met Max as a young police officer and I always considered him my friend. He spoke to me everytime I saw him and he never forgot who I was. He was truly one of a kind and earths loss is surely the heavenly choirs gain. May God comfort you during your time of loss, Max Robinson was one of the finest people I ever met.
