Paul Pullman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 13, 2015.

Paul Pullman, 74, beloved husband, brother, dad and grandpa, passed away on October 11, 2015, after a valiantly endured struggle with medical concerns. He was born July 31, 1941 to David and Olga (Fadel) Pullman in Salt Lake City. He was a member of the 1st graduating class from Highland High School in 1959, and achieved a B.S. in Business from the University of Utah in 1963. On June 19, 1965 he married his soul mate and life partner, Karen Berg. Together they would spend the next 50 years raising their 4 children and living life to the fullest. Paul was a top notch salesman and clothier. For many years he assisted in managing his family clothing businesses: English Tailors, Jack David, Lord's Big & Tall and Pullman Tailors, until they closed. He then opened Karen Pullman's Pro-Shop & Embroidery where he worked closely with his wife for several years. He was an astute businessman and always had a new idea. Paul was very engaged, invested and supportive of his family. He always seemed to be taking care of everyone and pushing them to achieve all that they could. He was very close with his brother, Jerry, and was always encouraging him to excel.

Paul was an accomplished athlete. At Highland High he was a 3 year Letterman in Football, Baseball and Wrestling. He was also a 3 year Letterman in Baseball, and starting Pitcher, at the University of Utah. Paul was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, University of Utah Chapter. He played Basketball with the AZA Youth Group, enjoyed golfing and spent most of his life bowling or coaching bowling. He was an avid outdoor sportsman and enjoyed floating the river, fishing and hunting with his father, uncle and cousins.

Paul was a member of the International Fancy Guppy Association and won many Championships with his fish. He knew the science behind raising a beautiful guppy! He also served for several years on the Board of Optometry.

Paul spent a great deal of his time investing in his children and their different youth activities. When his sons were young, he ran the Dilworth Elementary Chapter of the Western Boys Baseball Association (WBBA). He was a Boy Scout leader, and coached several summers of automotive baseball through Highland High School. When his daughter joined Job's Daughters, he became a supportive parent, and did whatever was necessary to help all of the girls participate in activities. Paul coached softball for the Bethel for several summers, and served as Associate Bethel Guardian for Bethel #5 for 2 years. Paul was always doing what he could to recruit new members. He would talk with friends and family members and explain the benefits of the different organizations. During the early 2000's he helped to revitalize R.W. Moore DeMolay Chapter in Midvale, UT.

In 1997 Paul joined Twin Peaks Lodge #32, Midvale UT. He jumped into Masonry with full force. He was a 32nd Degree Master Mason, Member of the Scottish Rite, El Kalah Shrine, the Jester's and the "Q's". In 1999 he joined Mt. Olympus Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, where he served as Worthy Patron, twice, and was elected Worthy Grand Patron for the State of Utah on the Friday prior to his passing. His ascent in the Grand Chapter line was something he was very proud of and very excited about. He enjoyed attending meetings, socializing with OES members and planning the upcoming year with his cohort, Holly Campbell, WGM. The members of OES meant a lot to Paul, and he appreciated the friendships and relationships that he made during his time in the order.

Bowling was the center of Paul's world. He spent countless hours in the bowling center participating in leagues, supporting his wife and children, and coaching youth bowlers. He was a Silver Level coach and enjoyed recruiting new young bowlers and helping those who were improving, to achieve their goals.

Paul is survived by his wife, Karen Berg Pullman, children: Frank Pullman, Kevin Pullman, Troy (DeeAnn) Pullman, Mindee (Richard) Kunkel, and 3 grandsons: Andrew Pullman, Tyler Pullman and Draegen Kunkel. He is also survived by his kid brother Jerry Pullman (Verlyn). He is preceded in death by his parents David and Olga Pullman, his grandparents, many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be held on Saturday October 17, 2015 at 1pm at the Midvale Masonic Temple: 7689 So. Center Square, Midvale, UT 84047. There will be a brief dedication at the Salt Lake City Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of this year's Grand Chapter Charities in his name: Breast Cancer Research, OES Education Fund or the Scottish Rite Learning Center. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Paul's cousin, Colleen Malouf for her generous help.

Paul has touched the lives of many people across many organizations. He was an advocate and a role model. He knew what he wanted and never stopped trying. His jovial attitude, laughter, smile and dedication will be deeply missed.

Paul was such an amazing man who became a close part of our family. He was such a giving and caring man, especially when it came to our youth bowlers. But he would do anything for anyone! I will miss the conversation and his "sweet" comments when us girls went to tournaments.... Lol. I will fondly look back at so many of these memories and think of how fortunate I am to have known such a great person!! To Karen and his children and grandchildren, I'm so very sorry for your sudden loss. Love to each of you.
